Okay, I have received two nappies so far, waiting on my third. I am trying a few different ones before getting more.
One was a plain fitted nappie, cheapy off ebay. It leaked.
Second one was a bits for bots. It leaked. Oh it was a pocket all in one.
I know I need to get the hang of getting the boosters right, so can anyone give me advice on the best way to make my boosters up. I have microfibre and hemp boosters.
The plain fitted one, needs an extra boost on top of its own padding - does that make sense, I'm just not sure how to do it.
Also, should the boosters be folded differently for a girl? She was wet on her front today with the pocket nappy, so maybe I need extra padding in the front?
I know it is a bit of trial and error, but some advice would be great.

Perhaps a cover for the nappies would be easier than relying just on boosters! Are you using covers too??
which bits for bots do you have?? is it fleecy?? or PUL (does it have a plastic like surface on the inside of the pocket?)
I'm surprised it leaked?? I like that brand...
I haven't had a pocket leak on me yet (touch wood) ... I stuff with one piece of folded microfibre on top of a folded piece of hemp on top of a folded small piece of terry (same size as a washcloth). All 3 layers are folded in thirds ..
and Jack wees LOTS :)
hope it helps.. :yelclap:

ooh I just had a thought you know how you said that she was wet on the front perhaps the nappy needs stripping. I will find a link for you about that!

(DISCLAIMER: I haven't got any practical hands-on experience with clothies yet:))
With the hemp, they get more absorbent the more they're washed, don't they??
Maybe put those boosters through the wash 5 or 6 times (if you're anything like me, that's just one days washing!! )
Someone with actual experience please correct me if I'm wrong

Okay, the cheapy nappie I did use a cover. Just a pvc one, so perhaps need a better cover.
The bits for bots has a pul cover, so didn't use a cover on that one. It didn't leak as much as the cheapy one, surprise surprise.
I think it is the boosters. I didn't have quite so many layers in my nappies, so that could be it.
I will try triple folding mine.

that is correct :D at least 3 hot?? washes before use... max absorbancy reached after about 8 washes...
you could email donna at bitsforbots.com - I'm sure that she would have advice for you - if not happy ... you did buy it off ebay - so she wouldn't exchange for you ... but she might be able to offer some options???

* How do I strip fleece?
If detergent or nappy paste residue builds up on a fleece liner or pocket nappy inner, the fleece may repel liquid, causing leaking. You can tell if this is happening by running water onto the fleece and seeing whether it penetrates or beads on the surface. If your fleece is repelling, it needs to be strip washed. Do a very hot wash in dishwashing liquid (like Dawn) and rinse until no more subs appear. If this does not work, you may need to scrub the fleece surface under detergent and hot water. Re-evaluate your washing routine - are you using natural soap, fabric softener, or too much detergent?
* Why are my brand new nappies leaking?
Chemicals and residue on new fabrics coats the fibres and reduces absorbency. All new nappies require 3-6 hot washes before they will approach full absorbency (shorter for cotton, longer for hemp - ask your manufacturer/WAHP).
Hope that info helps!

Yeah i would have to say maybe the ones you bought need a cover ?
Otherwise maybe your over boosting ? As sometimes doing this causes leaking ( been there done that LOL )
I use the Green Kids Anytimes pockets which are PUL so through the day bubs uses one microfibre insert & gets changed every 3hrs or so depending on whether we have poo or not. For nite i use the Dreamytimes which i boost with either my 4 layer hemp or my 2 layer wrapped over a microfibre these do the trick perfectly for 11hrs.
I also have Baby Bloomers pockets & find they work well enough through the day with a microfibre insert although if we have an explosive poo we have to be careful LOL.
Oh another thing were they second hand or new ? Cause if they are brand new you need to wash them a few time to get rid of the wax that is still on the fabric. I find 2 good washes & we are ready to roll.
Its pretty much a case of trial & error so hopefully you find that a few tweaks & all will come good.
Good luck !

They were both brand new. I didn't wash in hot water, we can't get hot on our washing machine so will maybe have to go to a friends house. We have a front loader which washes really well, but for some reason we can't get the connection on the hot working, might get dad to look at it tomorrow.
I really love both nappies, I think I just need to try a few things and see what works best.
Thanks Oscars mum for web site, that was awesome. Think that will be going straight into favourites.
