I have booked into the sunnybank private hospital for my elective c/s in march and I was just wondering if anyone else had recently had a c/s there? what it was like and if you can discharge yourself early than the reccommended 6 days? and if so, how early?
thanks

I have had two c/s at SPH, one in Aug 2005 and more recently in Oct last year.
First time round, I stayed in for 6 nights, and more recently for 5 nights.
I'm not sure what their policy is on early discharge, but you could discuss this with the staff at your pre-admission appt (usually 3 or so weeks prior to c/s) and also you can discuss this with your OB.
I'm sure it depends on how well you are recovering from c/s (as they will not discharge you home with pain medication), and also how well the baby is doing (bubs needs to be discharged by a Paediatrician).
You can have your partner/spouse stay with you, it costs about $60/night for them to stay, plus $8 for dinner.
I do know of people that have left after 4 nights, but not earlier, but you can ask them.

For me I preferred to stay for the full time allocated, as it helped me to recover from my c/s (I had a toddler at home), I found the afterbirth pains worse 2nd time (& required more pain relief than last time) and establish breastfeeding etc. The staff were great, the food was good, the rooms are fantastic and I had a great experience there both times. I also preferred to have visitors at the hospital, so when bubs and I came home, we had private family time to settle in for a few weeks, without interruptions from visitors.

Good luck with your c/s in March.

Thankyou so much! I had my first c/s at the mater in 06 and stayed for 5 nights which was great, I was just concerned as to how my first child will now handle me being away for a period of time, but im sure like many others, she will survive. I think it will be me with the separation anxiety. I have my pre-ad booked for two weeks before I was just getting a bit impatient with a few small questions. Thankyou so much for your reply
