Hi Everyone
I am 8 weeks pregnant. I had my dating ultrasound on Tuesday and everything was fine.
Today I was at playgroup and then I felt like I was bleeding so I rushed to the toilet and there was a lot of red blood. I went straight to the emergency department of the hospital and was seen straight away. I was given an ultrasound and it showed that there was 5mls of blood next to the placenta but the baby was fine.
I am bleeding at the moment and the doctors have told me that if it gets clots or I get more pain I should go back to the hospital as I may miscarry. But if it stops the baby should be ok but to go back for a follow up ultrasound next week.
Has this ever happened to anyone before? Was the baby ok?
Thank you
Natalie

Hi darl,
I'm going to be careful what I say here as last time I gave a message of hope, it didn't turn out so well. But here goes.
My sister had bleeding very early in her pregnancy & was told she would probably miscarry. Her ultrasound showed she had a large yolk sac with bleeding arround the edges. She was told to have strict bed rest. Fortunately everything turned out fine & she is now about 20weeks pregnant.
I'm currently about 34-36weeks pregnant and did not have any bleeding that I could see but when I had my early ultrasound at 8weeks it showed about 5mm blood near the placenta. I was told it could just be delayed implantation bleeding.
Like I said though, I wasn't bleeding on the outside.
I guess what I'm saying is keep your hopes up. It could turn out fine as it has for my sister. Will keep my fingers crossed for you. Please make sure you rest & try not to stress(hard I know) & go back to the hospital if your at all worried.
Best of luck.
Trish

Hi,
I had teh same thing happen at 13weeks. I awoke in the middle of the night to bright red blood and lots of it. I immediately went to the hospital where the scan revealed that baby was ok.
The blood slowed down by the next day and I ended up having brownish spotting for about 2 weeks after that.
I remember being so scared and constantly going to the loo to see if there were any changes.
I am now 27 weeks and all is going well.
Hope this has helped.

The bleeding has slowed right down now and is brown so hopefully thats a good sign. I am going for a follow up ultrasound next friday so will let you know how it goes.

Hi there,
I've just found this web site today. The ones in the UK aren't very good. I felt I had to reply to you to let you know i'm thinking of you and I hope all goes well (I'm sure it will).
I too had to have a termination last year at 16 weeks because of a small abnormality with my baby boy's urethra. Such a small problem but with drastic concequences much the same as your own.
I'm now 9 week pregnant and all is going well so far (fingers crossed), but there isn't a day that goes past when I don't think about my little boy Murphy, and worry that the same thing will happen or that I'll miscarry.
You need to think possitive thoughts and take plenty of rest.
Best wishes to you.

Hi
I am now 9 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding now for 3 weeks. At the start is was brown then three times bright red. Have had many ultra sounds and the baby is fine and growing... They have told me that there is blood near the baby and that the brown blood is from the body trying to get rid of that... Has anyone had the same experience? I am finding this so hard, already had my 5th Ulta Sound...

I did go through the same thing, but lost my bub at around 11 weeks, then went on to have two more healthy children, I have known women to have this kind of bleeding though & have healthy babies.
Try & be positive, I hope everything turns out well for you.:fingerscrossed:

Try not to worry about the bleeding...even though I know it is hard. I have a 1 and a 2 year old and I bled red blood through both pregnancies from the start.... With my first I had an ultrasound atleast once a week due to the excessive (and I mean excessive) bleeding.
I have just found out that I am pregnant again...and guess what.....yep it started again this morning......
So chin up!!! If I can be positive so can you.

Seeing blood is a scary thing but dont panic.
I had a big bleed at 9 weeks, the most blood I have ever seen come out of me, with big clots. It was early morning and I had just gotten out of bed. My partner left for work already so I rang him at work to rush me to ER. (I dont drive). I thought Id lost my baby. I was balling my eyes out. I was a mess.
I spent 6 hours in ER. Had an internal exam and they said my cervix was slightly open, of course that didnt help me much (also had a whole team of student docs having a good look you know where), they ran bloodtests, and said my hormones were still high, then had a long wait for an ultrasound. Well well well, everything looking normal. They sent me home with a letter for my doctor that simply said 'threatened misscarriage'. Im now 17 weeks (almost) and no more bleeding.
I now know that bleeding during pregnancy doesnt always mean misscarriage. They just say threatened misscarriage because they couldnt find a cause for the bleed.
Its always best to get checked out. But remain calm. Its not always misscarraige.
Hope it helps.. and I wish all the girls a positive result if bleeding.

Happened to me at 9 weeks. I carried twins to 38 weeks, problem free pregnancy :) (well that was the only 'problem'). Was also the same day i found out i was having twins. can you imagine one minute your still excited that your pregnant, the next you think your miscarrying, then you find out everything is fine, its normal to bleed sometimes...but you have twins haha

I bled bright fresh blood from 5 weeks to 15 weeks every day. At 12 weeks my mother called an ambulance to take me to hospital due to the amount of blood I was losing. DD is now 5 mths old and they could not explain the bleeding but everything was fine. I had no bleeding at all with my first. I was told I was miscarrying at this hospital and they refused to do a scan as they said it wouldn't tell me anything, how wrong they were.
Hope everything turns out OK for you.

Hi,
I've bled with all 3 pregnancies. The worst was with my son, I bled bright red blood at 10 weeks and he was fine. With my current pregnancy I bled brown blood from week 5 to week 10 and all is fine so far (I'm now 16 weeks).
Good luck. Keep us updated.
