Just wondering when everyone is having their first OB or hospital check up? Also how many weeks will you be?

Well atm there is only 1 maternity hospital up here running so they are pretty tight with appts. Also no private Ob's here atm either grr, they all work for the hospy so can't get into them until roughly 20weeks atm.

So I'm going to my GP every month till then.

However my first Hospy visit will be for my first scan which will be roughly around the 12 week mark. So roughly another 6 weeks away.

I have my first OB appointment on the 7th Feb and I should be about 7 weeks then. He'll be doing a scan to check everything is ok as I had 2 miscarriages last year so am being monitored from early this time.

Hi

I've already had a scan at 7 weeks due to a miscarriage last year.

I called to get my hospital appointment and they are booked out until the end of March:hair: They are apparently going to call me when they list some more clinics.

To be honest I'm not really in a hurry to have my hospital appointment. They dont do much, its a hassle to park and it means I will have to think about whether I am going to fight for a VBAC or have an elective:confused: TOO HARD!!

I have an ultrasound on tuesday to check for a heartbeat etc as i had a previous m/c.
As i will be doing shared care between gp and hospital i don't think i have to go to the Hospital until i am 14 weeks i think. Last time i was pregnant i tried to make that appointment and when i rang the lady (i was 6 weeks) she told me i rang too early and to ring back when i was at least 8 weeks.
As long as this ultrasound on tuesday is ok i wont have to go back to the gp until a week before the downs screen at about 12 weeks to get a referal, but thats it for now.

Hi Layneypossum - I am doing 'shared care' also between my GP and hospital - what exactly does this mean? I have only been for the initial doctor visit to get blood tests done to confirm etc and when I phoned next time to ask him about a referral to the hospital he said 'oh you want shared care then' and then just booked me in for my next appt.

Can you explain?

Well I am having a homebirth with a midwife. I will probably see my GP as well a few times. I think I will book a GP appointment for initial bloods around 12 weeks.

As far as the midwife visit, I suppose I need to choose a midwife first

I have a few lined up, need to do interviews etc.

I love that you have your own private middy who comes to YOUR HOME, I don't like waiting ages for appointments especially with a toddler and only one car in the family. I will be getting very special, one on one care, cant wait :D

I'm also doing shared care, as i have with both my girls.
it basically means that you see your gp every month (in my case there is a midwife at the dr's that I actually booked in to see monthly, and the gp ducks in quickly ).
the monthly checkup is weight, bp, urine, belly measurement and heart doppler sounds.
i go to her for everything, except the inital hospital appt at about 12-14 weeks or so, around the 20 week mark (after the u/s) and I think from 37 weeks, weekly.

I have had 2 visits to GP for initial BT's etc already.

I have my first OB appointment on 25th Feb i will be just over 12wks i think. That is my first scan as well.

I have only been to my GP once at 4 weeks, for bloods.

I'll be going back in the next few weeks for a referral, and forms for the nuchal translucency screening.

I'm booked in for my OB on 22 February (12 weeks and 5 days) and will be having my nuchal translucency ultrasound on the same day, as it is over an hours drive to Cairns.

My SIL is doing shared care with her GP, and she was slack booking in for her initial consult with OB, and couldn't get in until 20 weeks.

I have seen my gp and have an u/s on the 4th this will make me about almost 8 weeks. I have a history of a blocked tube so thats why i have to have an u/s so early. Fingers crossed my little peanut has made its way down. I see the ob for the first time on the 11th feb

i have my first booking in appointment with the midwife (i am home birthing) on the 8th of feb, i went to the doctor when i was 4 weeks to have preg confirmed and bloods taken. I will be going back to see him some time this week to get the results and to make sure he is happy to care for me for a home birth (only need him for referals for bloods and scans and for prescriptions) other wise i will have to find a doc that will. :fingerscrossed: my GP will suport me:)

Hi AmyLou

You sure will get to see bubby :yelclap: The main purpose of the u/s is to take the measurement (I can't remember what it is called - but it is at the back of the neck), then they put it into the computer with the blood test results and give you a risk rating (mine was 1 in 35,000 both times :))

But they should have a good look at bubby all over, which will be fun. Enjoy :)

Hubby wants to have an US. SO we should go to see GP this week. I think if I get a hospital booking by 12 weeks we might actually get a US before 20 weeks. If we are lucky.

Please, please please update us on your pg - now I'm really curious to find out how far along you are!

I had a GP appointment a few weeks ago, and ultrasound about 1 week ago last Friday, and have another GP appointment on 11th - next Monday. There I will get my referral etc, and find out what the plan is after that.

Hi Amy. Yes you will get to see your bubba just like any normal ultrasound.

Are you having a blood test as well? If you are after the ultrasound they will usually counsel you on the results, combined risk of having a baby with downs syndrome. HTH

Hi AmyLou

I think (I THINK) that they send the results to the Diagnosic Imaging and also to the Obstetrician.

Don't quote me though. I'm trying to remember! Have you got all the forms from your GP? Maybe check with them.

AmyLou
05-02-2008, 09:31 AM
Yeah i made my appointment with my Ob and they sent me out the forms for the diagnostic place and to get a blood test so maybe on there it has to send it to the dr and then he will pass it on.. i might ring to confirm that! Thanks!

Yeah, it is for the 'nucal translucency' test. Not that big of a drama - a blood test and an ultrasound. Nothing out of the ordinary for pregnancy :) My GP gave me the forms required at the same time she gave me my referral.

OK Ladies,
Need some information. You all are so knowledgeable about the testing forms, have had scans listened to the heart beat etc.
I have appt GP 13 Feb. Not seeing OB until 10th March. Nothing mentioned about scans, or tests. Just assumed I would have them due to age....

You mentioned forms - now it's been a long time between babies and things may have changed. What do I need to get organised before the first GP's appt. If I have not had blood tests to confirm does this mean I am not really pg. As I feel it. What is the purpose of the bloods.
I must sound really blonde. But last time I went to the GP - he arranged the OB had 2 scans and then babies arrived after monthly visits. Sounds like you all have a lot more happening and I feel like I have L Plates in and training wheels.

not to worry, we're all a fairly knowledgable bunch between us!!
The bloods are to confirm the preg, to do a general full blood count and to check for rubella, hepatitis & other diseases etc
if you are going for a nuchal translucency u/s you'll need to have bloods done a week before the u/s.
you don't need anything else at your first gp appointment except maybe some wee and some blood (and lots of questions maybe!!).
good luck with it all:sunshine:

Being a High RIsk Pregnancy my Local Clinic(Hospital) wouldnt take me on(couldnt factilite).
So instead i get my Monthly Check ups done by my Doctor as my only other option is Royal North Shore Hospital which is about an hour and a halfs drive each way..
I travel to RNSH for my Ultrasounds which i have about every 6weeks to monitior progress but to have my check ups there to would be alot of driving and would take alot outta me..

My next routine checkup is on thursday, and my next ultrasound is on the 26th of Feburary..

Ok we live in different states so it may be different. But this is what I no. As you are over 35 the 12 week 'nucal translucency' test is free (but you dont have to have it) when you have this scan you will need to get bloods done a week before hand your OB will give you a form of what tests need to be done .The blood people will send a copy to your OB and to the people doing the scan. The scan people will do the scan get you to wait for about 20 mins then give you the Odds on your chance of somthing being wrong.

Where my OB sends me to have the scan it can be quite hard to get into so I booked that when I was 5 weeks Preg so you might want to call your OB office and ask where thay want you to go and maybe book now then when you see your ob you can get the referal.
Then I the day I have the 12 week scan I always book the 20 week scan then you can get a time to suit you. You can always cancell or change if needed.

So this is Brisbane info seeing a Private OB. I hope it helped a little.

Hubby and I went to the doctors last Thurs just to get our referral printed for the 12 week scan. We got to hear the heartbeat which was nice.

Have the 12 week scan booked for 7th March (which will make me almost 13 weeks, but this is my day off). Then I have an appt booked for the 10th March to meet the midwife.

Really looking forward to it. Only have 6 days left until 12 weeks, and can't wait.

My matron of honour (who unfortunately lives in another state to me) just text me today to say she is 3 months preggers, due 7th Sept (I am due 14th), so that was awesome. I had to text back and say 'big congrats and I will try and call you next week to talk', lol, cause I couldn't talk now and not be able to tell her!

Still haven't seen a GP. Of course it doesn't worry me. But hubby might be annoyed if he misses on the anomaly scan.
Been so busy. Might get to see our GP in a couple of weeks when we have settled in our new place.
What are our chances of getting a scan before 20 weeks?
