Panadol Before Injections?

Just wondering if people give panadol to their babies before injections? I didnt with the 2month ones and she screamed and screamed - I did today with the 4mth ones and she only screamed for a little while and seems a lot happier afterwards (so far :fingerscrossed:) even a smile after 10 mins. I did mention to the CHNs that i had given her some but they were saying i really shouldnt as she may not have needed it. But I think having it helped her with the pain from how shes reacted this time compared to the 2 month ones

Whats others opinions?

Nope, didn't use Panadol.
We did use Emla patches though and they were great for us.
I can't hold Zac when he is getting injections, as I'm afraid I'd deck the doctor.
So, emla patches, distraction whilst they are happening, and then I swoop in and cuddle him after they're done. He cries for about a minute, if that.

I didn't. Maybe I'm mean but I don't like to give DD panadol if she may not need it.

I thought about it before her 2 month shots but just took a bottle with me and soothed her with that right after. I think she had a slight fever and was unsettled after 1 set of shots, but that didn't appear until a few hours after and so there was plenty of time to monitor her reaction and give her panadol after.

They have so many different types of vaccines that I don't think that they would react the same to them all. My DS only reacted once (can't remember which ones). So I'm glad I didn't dose him everytime just in case, as he didn't need it anyway.:)

I havn't done the panadol for the vaccines at all! I just put him straight onto the boob! lol:laughing: Fixes everything!

My DD has had 3 sets of immunisations and I only gave her panadol prior to her 2nd set (at 4 months). I noticed that it didn't seem to change her behaviour or reactions before, during or after the vaccinations.

My paeditrician said that a number of years ago they did advocate giving babies panadol before vaccinations as the theory was it lessened the pain and likelihood of fever, grizzliness etc. He then went on to say that this was never proven and its better to give it to them afterwards if they do develop a fever rather than give it to them before as they may not need it.

I don't plan on giving my DD panadol before any future injections.

I did with DD1's first 2 lots, but it didn't appear to change anything. With DD2, i haven't at all....

I have never given either of my girls panadol before their vaccinations. In my opinion, it could help to 'cover up' a reaction that they might have afterwards. If they have a temperature or anything strange afterwards I would rather that it show itself before the panadol wore off so I don't give it to them unless they need it afterwards. With both I have just given them a cuddle and maybe a feed afterwards and they have been fine. DD1 got a temperature after a couple of hers but was fine and DD2 has not had any reactions as yet.

When my twins had their first set if injections 2 months ago i gave them the pandol but when i went yesterday for their second round i didnt give them anything. This morning i noticed T2 Matthew was moaning, sounded like he was in pain, i gave him some panadol and a bottle and he was fine, they were both so tired yesterday and this morning and after i gave them both a panadol this morning with their bottle they were alot better.

I personally dont see any harm in it as long as its used wisely

I agree mylittletwins, I didn't give panadol for DD's first lot of immunisations but I did for the others and she coped much better. I actually hadn't thought about giving it beforehand until my CHN and DD's doctor both suggested it.

I never gave panadol. I found she coped better after each vaccination. The first time she screamed blue murder, second time not as long and barely at all for her 6 months shot. If she needed it afterwards I would have given it to her though, she just didnt need it.

My SIL said this about her little one, too. Eden is having her 4 month ones done today :crying: - God give me strength!! I'm hoping she will be the same.

As for Panadol, I would give it after, but usually not before as I don't want to mask any possible reactions etc, but this is just me.
