Sorry but have to warn all of you mums/mums to be who are unaware that these dummies are unsafe. I used them right through with my 1st child 10 years ago and no prob's, HOWEVER, with my now 16 month old bub encountered a potentially life threatening problem when he was 6 months old. I had even just bought him the next size dummy up 6 - 18 months and THANK GOD I was upstairs during his nap one afernoon outside his room folding washing as I heard a very faint noise. He had managed to get the entire dummy into his mouth which was suppressing his tongue and was choking.

I will never take the risk again and I tell everyone when I am out at the shops or whatever if I see their baby with a NUK dummy about what happened to me.

If you are still in doubt, do a search on the web and you will find I am not the only one this has hapened to. Please don't risk your precious babies life.

Am sorry if I have burst your bubble - I know how hard it can be once your bub is used to a particular dummy but I would never forgive myself if I didn't at least let other unsuspecting mums know about this.

I switched to a dummy similar shape but with a larger shield which is not so flexible as the NUK.

Kind regards

Wow that is so scary. We dont use dummies here...but hopefully others will get the message. Hope this is in the safety threads section too .
What a terrible and scary thing to have to go through.

I can't remember if it was last year or the year before that the NUK dummies were in the news, as quite a few babies were able to get the whole dummy in their mouths, definatly a choaking hazard there

I personally don't really like the NUK dummies for that reason, the sheild is so small, and so easily fits in babies mouths

Oh dear...

Mischa has one of these... we don't use it very often and will throw it away now.

What about the Avent ones? Mischa likes these - has anyone heard of any problems with them?

WOW that is scary, my DS doesn't sleep with a dummy but I sometimes give it to him in the daytime when he is whingy, thankfully he hasn't had it for about a month now, i'll be chucking mine out for sure.
What a waste of money, they are one of the most expensive ones too.

The Happy Baby, even those with the nuk shaped shield are larger and therefore shouldn't present a hazard. If you go for the traditional shape ones then they are even better. In my opinion Happy Baby are the safest and the best as well as the cheapest!

yeah my bubs has become a very 'happy baby' recently lol.. she has decided she only wants the happy baby dummies and bottles, before that it was tommee tippee and avent which was burning quite a hole in my pocket so im not complaining:yes:

CHOICE did something on this last year I think. The happy baby one is one of the best! But that was the older style one they tested, there are a few different styles now (but all seem to be on the bigger side too) so not sure about them.

OMG  as if we don't have enough to worry about already as mums. I am so glad that you were up stairs as well. I have been using Avent dummies purely because they sterilise well. They seem very strong and don't deflate like some of the cheaper ones. Am going to check if it fits in her mouth though because she does turn it around and chew on it sometimes.

So have you reported it to NUK - cause I can't find anything out about a recall - NUK are the only ones that my little girl will use, she's 18mths now. Which particular ones did you have the issue with - cause there are silicone and latex. She's never put the whole thing in her mouth. It's all so scary. She won't touch the happy babies ones at all :(
