Hi.

My DD Alex is 18 months, 8.3kg and not eating. She is on elecare and purees and has oral aversion. We live in a small country town in central QLD. For 3 months, Alex has been losing weight, and for those 3 months we have been waiting to see the travelling peadiatritian.

I have had numerous dr's and other specialists tell me she needs a nasal gastric feeding tube to help us get her condition up, but no one has stepped up and acted on it. It seems that everyone is too afraid to do someone elses job. Problem is, we dont have anyone else to help us.

I emailed the local newspaper to ask for contacts to a group called 'Ryans Rights' who are fighting for better health care out here after a 4yo little boy died from slow action. The jurnalist has written a story about our case which will be in wednesdays paper.

What would you do? Would you have gone to the paper?

hey, sorry you guys are having such a hard time. i think you need to do what ever you have to do for your child. we live in a small town nearly 5hrs away from sydney and our pead is only around once a month, Ry has dairy and soy protein allergy and we dont know what else yet, he also has cycle vomiting and cant tolerate solids and isnt putting on much weight. i got sick and tired of the same blood tests and routine checks with no out come. so today i called the sydney childrens hospital and put the wind up them and then they called back this arvo and we are going down on friday to see the specialest. its really sad that we have to get to the point where we are so cranky, but at the end of the day its there job to see our children when they are sick and its there job to help them get well and if that means us hassling them until what needs to be done gets done then thats what you have to do.
going to the paper was a good idea, how far away is your nearest large hospital?
hope all works out for you.

I'd be ringing the closest/best city hopsital and getting her in:hissy: even if this is what you have to do. Is she bright and alert or not well?

I hope something gets sorted for you soon.

I suppose it's a shock for me because my son's were that weight at 4 months.

Good luck and get on the phone to the right people and get someone interested in you daughters health.
