Okay DD has been walking since 10 months, and is a very competent walker, runner etc etc. In the last couple of weeks though she has started when barefoot walking around the house on her tippy toes...I tell her to stop and she does but she will go back to again...is this just something they do cos they work out they can? BTW she is 18 months now...

Yeah she's just having fun with it :) I wouldn't bother telling her to stop - she will in her own time I think.
Bug used to do it all the time as well to the point I spoke to my doctor about it, just incase. He said that it just feels different to them because it is stretching the muscles in their toes and feet and is a different sensation so they keep doing it.
I would just let her go, it doesnt seem to have done any damage to Bug.

Thanks girls for the reassurance...maybe she jsut wants to be a ballerina hey? I think I just was worrying cos someone said its not normal...but sounds like it is :)

Well i wouldnt call anything Bug does normal:laughing: but she is about to turn 3 and every so often I still catch her doing it.
DD does it as well specially when she is barefoot. Walks normal with shoes. Mom reckons I did it too, as I started getting older I would pretend I had high heels on. All normal I guess!
DS still does it from time to time. Usually though, when he's thinking of what mischief to get into
Is she doing it all the time?
Don't google this because I did and then freaked out - you get concerned when they start associating it with autism, tight tendons etc
My DD started doing this as well - I assume it is something they learn and like anything new continue to do it until it bores them.
It's only a concern if they do it all the time for a prolonged period over time.

In reply to PP, I wouldn't worry...
My cousins have all done this, and when I brought it up with my grandmother, she mentioned that one in particular still does it more often then a couple of the others.
Thats my eldest cousin, shes now 18 actually.. and I would never have noticed if my grandmother didn't tell me so.
We think it's just a habit, she doesn't really notice. Shes incredibly smart, no medical problems etc. I've even caught myself wandering around on tippy toes... a bit strange, but it's just what some people do.. I guess?
We sing a song when he does it :p
"First he walked up on his toes...
Then up on his heels he goes..
On the sides of his feet he goes "CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP
And with feet together he goes "STOMP STOMP STOMP!" hehe
I just figured it was something fun to do.. So we sing that song when he does it and he just adores it all :)
Georgie-
Hugh who as you know is the same age as Tillie and was also walking at 10 months loves walking on tippy toes too.
He also loves jumping and running.
My personal view is it's just something new they are doing. :)
Love the bump BTW!

DD did this also....She walked at 10 months and I think she started doing it cause she got bored of walking the one way.
I spoke to my Doctor and he said not to worry as it helps with their balance...(have you ever tried walking on your tippie toes?? Its hard work lol)
DD is also a great dancer and shes nearly 4. She can spin and twirl on her toes.
My DS does this too - just for fun :D.

My ds started walking at 9 months and did this too, they picked it up at his 18 month CYH check up and referred us to a physio who gave us exercises to do and told us to keep him in higher backed shoes at all times besides sleep times. We did what we were told mainly out of fear of what would happen if we didn't do what we were told but i honestly think it's just a kid thing iykwim?? i wouldn't worry about it, it seems perfectly normal from what i can see and all the children that i have come across seem to walk on their tippy toes at one stage or another.
