Hi Bub Hubbers,
My partner and I would like to have a naming ceremony for our son Jasper. We have no family here in Oz but my sister and hubby will be visiting from England. Id also like to ask a neighbour to be a gaurdian as she has been very good to us. My parnter doesn't think its a good idea as she's got alot on her plate, a very ill husband and her 3 grandsons live with her. But I think that being asked is great way to say thank you for all she has done for us. I would also like to have a gaurdian for Jasper here in Australia.
What do you think??
Thanks for helping me out.

Hmmm not sure what you mean exactly. Do you mean a god parent or an actual legal guardian of your son if you both pass away. If that is the case you need to put that into a will.

That is fine it is just Guardian has a legal connatation of taking over the care a child if the parents pass away or are in some way unable to look after a child.

I don't see what is wrong with asking your neighbour as I am not sure these days the role of god parent is overly onerous. I think it is important to figure out what you expect of her and give her an opportunity to decline without any hard feelings. She will probably be honoured to be asked.

If you feel that this is the person you wish to take on the role of "guardian" or "godparent" then go with it of course give her the option to decline but even if she does the fact you asked will certainly make her day im sure !
We used "guardian" or "godparent" as the names in our sons blessing ceremony which was last weekend as we look upon it as though the godparents are spiritual guardians to him. This is also then more user friendly for those who arent overly christian.
Good luck with what you decide :hugs:
