Please describe kicks

Hi all,

I have heard of lots of people referring to the feeling of kicks as "butterflies" but I have had what I am pretty certain are kicks since this morning. They have been happening on and off all day. The first time I felt about 5 in a row (not in a pattern like a heart beat but randomly) and then nothing for an hour or two and then I'll feel a couple again. The most I felt was when I got home and sat down, it went nuts for about 15 mins.

The thing is that they are NO BUTTERFLIES. :no:

They are more like little taps upward towards my ribs. No I don't think the baby is that high up yet but when it starts, I dig my fingers in about 3cms above my belly button and then push in a downwards direction and I can actually feel it with my fingers.

I have an anterior placenta and my belly seems to sit up quite high compared to other pregnant women rather than down low so I think it is possible to feel it up there.

What does everyone think? The whole "butterflies" thing has thrown me off but I know I haven't felt anything like this before and the feeling of something tapping on the inside of my belly sounds like it could only be kicks, right?

Well I am thinking they are so am very excited and waiting to feel more. It is a very wierd sensation indeed! :smiliedance:

the butterflies or bubbles is usually very early movemnet before bubs kicks full on. its usually called fluttering. You are having your first so its likely you didnt notice the flutters. Thats what I did anyway, with #1 i only noticed the taps that turned into full kicks.

Thanks 34me - that explains it perfectly. I have been LOOKING for the "flutters" for AGES now and suddenly "whack!", I feel like someone's playing soccer with my insides! I'm sooooo excited!!! :smiliedance:

hehe thats so exciting definately sounds like kicks ths same thing happened to me i hardly got the fluttering then all of a sudden i felt the 'kick' and it hasnt stopped since it puts a smile on your face everytime it does it, just makes it seem so much more real!! :smiliedance:

I never felt "butterflies" with my first one, I didn't notice anything until one day at about 17 weeks I felt like someone was tapping on my belly...from the inside :D

Definitely baby moving, congratulations it's a wonderful, reassuring feeling isn't it?!

It is so exciting and very reassuring. I was only starting to worry last night as I was starting to wonder whether I was still pregnant or not. I have felt fine for a long time now and no morning sickness or anything and... no butterflies!

And you're right. Whenever I feel it, I kind of jump as it gives me a little shock. Then I dig my fingers in and I can feel it a few more times. I just giggle. It's SOOOO puts a smile on my face for a very long time. I now feel pregnant again - YAY!!! :smiliedance:

This is my second preg im 21wks now and im feeling more than butterflies.. your right its more like TAPS, or soft kicks.. its hard to think back with DS, But Im getting them alot.
Mostly when lying down or still like now as im typing..I have a bit more fat on my tum than last time so thats why i think there a little muffled feeling.. IFYNWIM.. haha

I have been feeling the butterfly type movements for weeks but last night while in bed i started to feel the real kicks, this baby seems strong. It was so exciting coz hubby could feel them too and its so special it sort of makes the pregnancy more real for him like he can be part of it now it's not jut all mine. IYKWIM
It bough back all the good and bad memories of DD kicking me sometimes they really hurt! but it is great to feel the baby.
