Hi there - my beautiful one month old daughter was breach and so has to go for a scan of her hips in 2 weeks time to check her hips for dysplacia. :(

When she was in hospital the doctors said that she did have a slightly clicky hip. Does anyone know what the chances are of her being ok and not needing a brace, or do most bubs diagnosed with a clicky hip go on to need a brace?

Thanks :fingerscrossed:

My DD was born with a hip dysplasia in her left hip and we had u/s at 3 weeks we then had the option of going to the physio at the hospital and having the brace on or goign to see a Paediatric Orthopaedics Specialists, yes it cost a bit but i am so glad i did go and see him as he didn't think she needed the brace and i just had to have u/s and then xrays to keep an eye on it and make sure it was getting better but if i went to the phyiso's at the hospital they would of put her in the brace at 5 weeks old...
My dd might not be as bad as your child but i would recomend anyone to go and see an Paediatrice orthopaedics specialist before they got the brace on...
I want the best for my baby like we all do and 6 months in a brace that she might not of needed is worth all the $$$ for the specialists appoitments I think

my daughter was born with her leg lieing up along her bosy and foot resting underneaath her chin, duing the labour i heard ok hers the head.. and then there was omg theres a foot!! not great at the time lol..

after untrasounds and xrays on her hips as well as her knee( they thought that 2 may have been affected) they gave us the all clear to go home but in a weeks time we were sent to a orthopedic surgeon sp?? for then to have a look at it ( it stayed in the position for the entire week but she was comfy and still feeding etc!!)

He took one look at her and said he had never seen anything like it ( which releived my stress NOT!!) and got his boss ( head honcho of his dept the doc looked like he should have retired ten yrs earlier) he looked at the xrays said her hips were a litle clicky but he thought most of the drama was just muscle related, and told us to have her do physio for one month and then they would reasses. within 2 weeks it was back to normal position and they just watched her progress over the first 12 months development

luckly we have had no more drama's.

just my story for you, hope everything goes well for you! pm me if u ever want to chat!

A short amount of time with a brace is nothing compared to problems later on. They don't even realise - they're just little bubs!!

My DS1 had a slight click in his hips, but the middy said to put him in double nappies (one disposable and one terry towel) so we did that for about 6-8 weeks from memory and he had no further trouble... people wondered why, but understood after we told them... she'll be fine... brace, plaster, or not, better to get it attended to now....

hey everyone thanks for all your replies. I don't think my little Clara is too bad and so its good to hear that clicky hips don't always need a brace. She's booked in for the scan on Jan 31st so I guess we'll know for sure then.

I know that a few weeks of wearing a brace now is nothing in the big scheme of things but you just so want them not to need any external help at all. :)

DD was frank breech, her legs were extended straight with her feet behind her ears. C/s birth. The paed found one of her hips was 'clicky', the ultrasounds gave them the all clear and she's never been in a brace or any other correction.

Hi hun, My friends bubba had the same, was diagnosed at about 4 months old. She has to wear a brace for 4 months, 23 hours a day, ofcourse it is upsetting to see a small bubba in a brace, but it is worse for us to see it, then it is for them (shes still a smiling and happy little thing) :p, plus better to fix the problem early and then no problems in the future. Take care x

Hi,
my second son had "clicky hips" and after several ultrasounds and a orthopedic consultation didn't need a brace. He had check ups for it between 5weeks and I think it was 12 weeks of age and was given the all clear sometime soon after that I think. Good luck.
