Hiya all
I'm going to have to put Bubs in Child Care when I go back to work in December and a few friends have told me I should start looking now as places at good ones can be hard to find. I haven't even had Bubs yet!!!
I live in Maddington but will be working out the airport way, part time. Anybody got any tips?? Places to avoid?

I'd just like to recommend Community Based Centres over private, I have had 7 years experience in the Child Care Industry and have worked in both sectors. There are 2 Community based Child Care Centres that you might consider looking at near us, Wirrabirra Child Care Centre located on Corfeild St and Treasure Island Child Care Centre located opposite Carousel Shopping Centre in Cannington. I have worked at both centres and highly recommend Treasure Island.
Good luck with your bub and I hope you find one your happy with, if you'd like any advice on what to look for when visiting you can pm me.
Hi I'm in Maddington too :)
Personally I wouldn't touch either of the two established centres in Maddington (Pm me if you can't work out their names) with a barge pole - one I've actually used, the other I've been on tours of three times (over a few years) and each time was freaked out enough to put me off using it. (Both have had problems maintaining accredition standards and have lost accredition, along with the 2nd centre having a disturbing standout incident that made the news)
There is a new cc centre on the highway on the corner of pritchard and the one in Kenwick seems to be popular with the school parents.
Other than that I can't really help :( last time I needed child care I ended up paying a fellow mum to look after my youngest because the local centres were so crappy. (it has been over a year now since I was looking so they may have improved in that time).
BEST OF LUCK :)

i know the cuddles in maddington just got taken over by a lovely lady who used to run my old center NOR,
not sure what the center is like, but i know she's running and could set it up how she wants it,,, which is a great thing.
she's one of those reception people that bust there behinds to make things best for you, and fit into you the best they can
her name is Lauren

I might be a little too late with this info..
I wouldnt put my kids into one of the centres in Maddington.
They were there a few years ago and I pulled them out as the director was leaving. Since then, it has turned to rubbish.
They didnt pass ther most recent accreditation.
The other centre in Maddington is beyond excellent!
(they also have a centre in Kenwick)
My children go there and I would recommend them to anyone who wants carers with a genuine love of children and child development.
The one in Kenwick is brilliant as well.
OKay OKay I work for the centre but they have women who are mothers/grandmothers who run the place.
That's rare.
PM if I can help you any further.
And Lauren is no longer at the other centre.
They have changed directors too many times to count in recent years.
What about home daycare?
I live in Maddington but will be working out the airport way, part time. Anybody got any tips?? Places to avoid?
I don't live in Maddington but will be working part-time too near the airport :detective: we could be at the same place

Well the only concern I have with Home daycare is what would happen if the carer got sick etc :)
I'll be working near the international airport, which for you?
If you click here - http://www.ncac.gov.au/Search/Search1.asp
this is the search page for the National Childcare Accreditation Council. This will allow you to search for childcare centres by postcode AND most importantly it will allow you to see the accrediation history of each childcare centre.
All three Maddington centres are either newly registered or accredited - Although there has been a name change so the previous history of one of the newly registered centres has been lost (although it still runs from the same building).

Well went to Cuddles Day care to have a look at them yesterday and I must say I was very unimpressed. All the toys were very worn and didn't look well looked after, one child was on a tricycle that was all rusty. Not to mention there was a toddler with a really bad cough and they were letting her go outside with no shoes or jumper on!! It was pretty damn cold.
I think if I do have to put DD there it'll be because I can't get her in anywhere else and it'll be a temporary stopgate until I can get her into a better centre.

cerridwen i can think of a better option then putting her there...let me look after her if u cant find anything better. i really didnt like the look of the place yesterday when we were there thats why i didnt really say much.
Is Huntingdale too far from you?
I've just taken my kids out of Club Junior on Huntingdale road, not because of the care, but because I left my job, I want to be with my kids. I have had a child in each room as my older two boys have been there for the past 3 years. I thoroughly recommend them, they are all wonderful, caring, mature women. In the three years, only 2 staff members have left(due to having babies of their own), so I have grown to know these women on a personal level.
I know they have places(ours! lol), and if it's not too far for you, definitely go and have a look :)

The NCAC site has not got the current info for the centre.
It should be updated with 10 days of the accrediation but for some reason, it hasnt been.
I put my children into the centre that is running from the same address as a previous one and I am very pleased with the difference!
Family Day Care is a lovely alternative.
There is a 24hr Family Carer on Saturn St in Kenwick. I know this as in my old job (for the centre who is not accredited atm.. I left prior to this) I had to take a child there.
Im not 100% on rates but the lady there is a sweetheart.
Good luck.:)

You would of met the Director named T***.
That toddler with the shocking cough was most likely the cooks daughter. Personal friends of ours, mind you, doesnt mean we agree with alot of the goings on.
Long story but it wouldnt surprise me if it were the child.

Seriously consider family day care. I have Claire in a family day care in Kenwick (not the one mentioned above) with a lovely lady. I am so happy leaving Claire with her, as I know she gets the same love and attention I give her. She only has a few kiddlies at the moment, but I don't think she has room for any more bubs sorry, otherwise would give you her details. I found her by ringing up Roberta Jull, details of which can be found on:
http://www.familydaycarewa.com.au/
If you are considering Family Day Care, I would also start looking a bit closer to the time you want to put your daughter into day care, as the spots seem to fill up pretty quickly. It is also a little more expensive - I found on average about $10 more a day than day care centres. But the government helps out a lot at the same time (ie. paying some of that for you upfront and also the 50% child care rebate.)
If you have any other questions about Family Day Care just ask me. I'll be at the meet on Tue.
