Hi again

This might seem like a silly question, but I'm wondering how you sterilize bottles in the microwave? It seems like it might be a bit quicker & easier than the solution.

Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Hi Sharvs,

Its very easy, all you need to do is pick yourself up a microwave sterilizer (you can get cheap ones from Target for about $20).

Then you just stack the bottles in the sterilizer with the required amount of water and pop it in the microwave for a few mins (mine takes 4 mins).

I normaly just rinse the bottles in soapy water before i put them in. Its that easy.

Hope this helps. :D

I used the self-sterilising bottles. The brand is Pur. You can get them from Target.

I have an avent microwave steriliser and I LOVE it!!

I just wash the bottles when I do the washing up and rinse the soap off then stick them in the steriliser with 200ml of water - it takes 4 minutes, soooo quick!!

I was told when I had DD1 that steam was the best way to sterilise anything (unless you happen to own a sterilisation plant). I particularly like the part where you don't use any chemicals on bubs stuff - no matter how good they say it is to use solution I just couldn't bring myself to soak bubs bottles in chemicals.

The teats for Pur bottles are sold with the bottles so I would imagine they are fine with being steam sterilised.

I had to laugh at the midwife when DS was born. She gave me a tub of milton to put his dummy in. She told me to be careful not to get any of the solution on my clothes as it may bleach it - I thought "OMG, and I am going to out this in my baby's mouth!" I then (stupidly) asked if i had to rinse it off before I gave it to him "No" she said "putting it in water would get chemicals on it". OK, she's the expert!

The bottles mamaduke are referring to have a little 'thingymajig' that you pop into the lid that pinches the teat in place for sterilising in the microwave. You're baby will out grow the teats quicker than sterilising them iykwim..you will change teats every 8 weeks or so.

I use the avent microwave one aswell, i love it. The teats that cant be sterilised in it are latex ones but most bottles use silicone teats. My sons dummys are all latex ones so i just boil them on the stove
