View Full Version : nipple ring/s
just wondering if anyone out there has a nipple ring and also breast feeds? the reason i am asking is because i have 1 and (obviously it will be taken out when bub is sucking on that one) but just curious as to whether bub will get more milk from the nipple that is pierced or the same as the other? (as there is 1 hole which goes through the whole nipple(iykwim) or does it depend on whether the milk ducts have actually been pierced whether he will get more or the same amount?

IIRC, it does depend on whether the milk ducts have scarred over, as to whether your flow will be as good in the pierced nipple.
Removing the piercings is not mandatory - many women leave them in, with no ill effects to the baby. If the piercing is secure (and not too huge/dangly/etc), and the baby is able to latch correctly, it shouldn't make too much difference.
On the other hand, if the piercing is less than a year old or so, removing it could actually cause problems.

i used to have one ages ago and when they did it they said more milk would come out of the extra holes. i had taken mine out probly a yr before bub was born and i had lots more milk in that breast than the other.

A friend of mine had hers both done, no milk ever came out of the hole. Generally the holes are further back than the milk ducts. You can get soft plastic bar bells to BF with.
