Okay so respite care for children who need a nurse to care for them is really hard...IMPOSSIBLE to get, I would like a babysitter to care for Megan once a fortnight 4 a few hours.... I would like a break and dinner with DH........Apparantly it must b a nurse through the agency. I have to go through the commonwealth respite care place cause can't afford $40 an hour to go private. Do u think a network of similar families could start up like a babysitting club?????? I tube feed my daughter why couldn't I tube feed some-one elses and vice versa??? Would this work ???

Oh ... if you were in my area, I would let you train me how to look after your precious DD and I would sit for you!!! What a shame they make it so hard!! Hope you find someone that can help, and give you some relief!

Yeah like CC could you maybe train one of us mums ?
I whilst being driven mad by my two would be more than willing to learn to help you out in any way shape or form & we arent far from each other so ....
ok now this is just weird i literaly spoke with a lady this morning about it, as we have a wedding to go to in march mum is away GRRR and no one else can look after her even my mums gets scared and calls me every 15 minutes lol
The agency i spoke to told me that i should speak with the peads about government funding for so many hours week if you dont use it it just gets built up
Its called a disability service package and is for respite care
or alternatively lol move to perth one week i will have megan one night lol the other week you can have miki lol
can you imagine looking after miki and megan at once, at least feeds and meds would be easy lol

oh, i wish i could help. bad timing with bub number 2 coming in a few weeks.
i use to work at a respite center.
i really hope you can find someone, best of luck:thumbsup:
could you look at accessing a local special school??? a teacher aide would probably love the idea (I used to do lots of respite work before I became a mum.. ) .. and would probably already be trained in doing a gastro feed .. (might need a session or two with YOUR bubs as each kid is different) .. but $40 is extortion .. how can you enjoy a night out at that price/?? thats more than you would spend on a meal!!

it really sucks that sn mums arent looked after more. Id love to go out too. just once in a while, and know Alex was safe with whoever (and alex isnt nearly as full on medically as megan!! and i still stress!!) It would make life easier to step out for an hour or two and get some prespective. Maybe its something to bring up with a parliment member? But then when has the government helped any of us!!! (oh, alex got her heart surgery the day she did cause the election was on and the courier mail heard our story, she was operated on the day it was published!! W*nkers.)

I am already signed up the problem is there is no one available on a regular basis, I don't want a new person each fortnight, not good for Megan either. I can get someone to wash my dishes and clean my floor, but it's the child I need looked after, not the house work, I'm coming over!!!!!
lol if you were in QLD I would do it in a second hun,
it's a good idea setting up a club though as I find it hard to get people that aren't intimidatedby o2 at night.

Kiwibird27 what disability does your child have? I am almost 21, have worked with children with moderate-profound intellectual and physical disabilities since 2005 and am use to seeing gastrostomy feeding take place, I live in Sydney (not sure where you are located though) and would be keen to help you out if we could arrange something that suited us both...send me a message and we can talk.
