Hi,

My bub is a catnapper and she wakes frequently at night. She wakes up yawning. I try to put her back to sleep, but no matter how much I rock, pat, feed.. she won't go back to sleep. If I get her up she will happily play and doesn't yawn much until it is time for her nap, in which case she yawns as well as rubs her eyes..

My question is, is she tired when she yawns? Or do babies just do that sometimes? Is she overtired?

Hi there,

I'm thinking your little one might be overtired if she is only catnapping during the day and waking so frequently at night. Have you tried to get her to self settle at all?? If she can learn to self settle she will more easily put herself back to sleep when she wakes after a sleep cycle. Makes life easier on you too!

hiya uminaya i really think u should think about going to a sleep school (the state govt health clinics run them or can refer you to them). You are sounding like you could do with a decent nite's sleep as it is sheer torture being woken up multiple times at nite. u can actually go insane from it (literally). u will be stronger and healthier from a full nite's sleep - and happier too!! Pls consider it :)

I don't really mind waking for her, because she is getting better - she wakes far less than she used to.

She is able to self settle, I usually pat her for a while and she rolls on to her tummy by herself and goes to sleep. I have tried going back into the room and patting her after a sleep cycle, it just doesn't work. She will not sleep. If I take her out and put her around some toys, she will play happily, no grizzling, no clinginess.. So I assume she isn't really tired.

Haha I don't know if I want to go to a sleep school.. Isn't all they do cry it out? I am not ready yet to let her go through that, but if it gets worse, I think I may have to.

When babies yawn its a sign that they are tired, not always that they are overtired.

I wouldn't worry about it too much!
