Hi all,
Was just wondering if anybody else has had cervical surgery before conceiving?
I had my pap smear in September and got my results back saying I had CIN III. I had a large loop excision done in early November and conceived in late December. I am nearly 12 weeks now and I have to go and see an gyn/ob on the 5/4. He wants to check my cervix to see if it will be able to hold the pregnancy to term or possibly need a stitch.
Would love to hear from anyone else who has experienced this.
Thanks Mel

I have had CIN3 (twice, lucky me) but only had laser treatment and didn't conceive for more than a year after my 2nd episode. I was concerned as well about an incompetent cervix but was reassured by my ob that there was no problem because the area treated was on the surface and not up/near the centre (TMI?!). I'm not sure if that helps you at all.
Hi em's&callansmum, I've had the loop excision and afterwards carried my dd to term. After her I had the LETTS procedure and again was still able to carry ds3 to term - in fact he went 8 days past term AND I delivered him natural VBAC and he was born 10lb 4oz. The hospital dr's also said I had to have an ultra sound on the cervix ( during pregnancy with ds3 ) to check the length to make sure it would hold my baby to Term. I ended up not going to the appt mainly because I knew, from having dd, that my body would still be able to function the way it was intended. This was my very strong, powerful belief and I proved correct for myself.
em's&callansmum, only you can decide if your body is capable of holding a baby to Term. Maybe do your own research for similar stories elsewhere in other forums etc to help you with your decisions. Enjoy your pregnancy, and don't let any medical person " bully " you into unnecessary interventions.

Thanks Martha and Mum24.
Im not overly concerned about it all. I had the same procedure done 11yrs ago before I had my 10yo DD who I carried to 42 weeks.
My Ob said to me that the position the CIN III was on my cervix was more over to the side and he said that I shouldnt have any problems at all.
I have read some research regarding having the procedure and then conceiving. The research did state that you have a higher risk of having premature babies and low birth weight babies. That was basically all it said.
