Hi, I am pregnant with twins due this July! This is my third pregnancy, and my second multiple pregnancy. I have a question that I would like to ask.
My u/s showed that my little girl (TB) has an echogenic focus in the left foetal cardiac ventricle which may represent a papillary muscle. I have been asked to come in for another scan at 26wks but in the meantime, I am a little scared. Has any other twin mummies had a similar report only to find that everything was ok?
I know there is only a 1% chance of it being a chromosomal defect such as down's syndrome, but I still can't help but worry and I guess I am posting to look for a few answers. :(

Hi Lollie

A friend of mine had that with her singleton last year. Given she was told it was a marker for downs syndrome she decided to have an amnio after agonising over the decision. She then had a little bit of leaking amniotic fluid throughout the rest of her pregnancy but Max was born well in January. After she'd had the amnio she found out from a number of sources that many babies show this on the 20 week scan but that it is a very low marker of Downs. Her OB who was away at the time she had to make the decision said that he would not have recommended an amnio. I also spoke to my sister, a sonographer, at the time and she agreed that most radiologists she knows would not have recommended an amnio in the absence of any other downs markers and most of these disappear on later scans. Not sure if that helps but hopefully it will reduce your concerns. Best wishes.
