My DD is 7 months, I've been taking her into work with me a few days a week since she was a newborn...

It occured to me the other day, that the poor darling has NO routine what so ever...

People always go on about how important routine and consistancy is for a child, and I'm not giving that to DD at all.

She sleeps in the car, then is woken up and taken to work, she sleeps there, is demand feed and then sleeps in the car on the way home..

Do you think this could be really unsettling for her?

What do other parents who work do? I suppose your children are in daycare or with a family member so I guess they would still have some sort of routine...

Hi Katie,

Both of my kids have been in day care since 5 months old. My youngest is 17 months old and our routine is the same 5 days a week.

He wakes at 6am like clockwork, bottle, fed, dressed and at daycare by 7.30am. Is religiously picked up at 4pm. Fed, bathed, play and in bed by 7pm.

We swear by routine.

I hate to think of what is going to happen when baby #3 comes along and our routine goes out the door.

It sounds like you do have some sort of routine..waking, going to work etc...your babe will get used to your routine in the long run.

Hi :)

Nope, not important at all IMO - as long as you are sensitive to your babies needs, I don't see why a routine is important at all, especially at such a young age

Sounds like you are doing great as you are :)

I don't have a routine either, all my days are different. I do whatever needs to be done at whatever time, eg... feed when hungary, sleep when tired.

The only routine is when I go to work on Tues DS has to be at daycare at 7.30am.

When my DS was a baby he had a routine but that's gone out the window when he had independence and when DD came along.

I think variety is good. :D IMO
