hoping someone can help me here.
Im looking at dropping a nap for dd, partly for her but mostly for me because she has 3 short naps in the day, one morning, mid noon and late noon. For about an hour at a time. But she will sleep anywhere from 1.5-2 hours in the morning nap.
I am having a really hard time trying to work around her naps when I need to do things in the day, or even just going out for a walk, and it means me and dd are housebound most days (because we havnt got a car it takes awhile to get anywhere by bus so having 2 hours to get anywhere and back in time for her next nap is too hard and driving me insane- its also causing increasing arguements between me and dp as we cant go out for lunch or whatever on a weekend cause we ahve to stay home for dd's naps etc., cant visit friends cause we ahve to be home at a certian time for her nap etc.) So if I had that time in the middle of the day it would make life sooooo much easier for all.

The only problem is, if I give her a morning nap and arvo nap only, it means she will be awake for 4 hours or so til her next nap, and im wondering if this is too long for her?
How long does/did your 6-7 month old bub stay awake for between naps? And when you dropped a nap (if you have) how long did it take them to get used to the new routine and were they cranky for awhile while adjusting?

she also sleeps about 11 to 11 1/2 hours at night so shes getting plenty of sleep there. goes to bed about 7.30-8pm and wakes up about 7am.

any help appreciated! sorry for :ecomcity:

Try to push back her afternoon sleep about half an hour and drop the late afternoon nap. Worked for us. :D

sorry I probably should have reworded the question a bit better lol

what im asking is, is 3 1/2 to 4 hours too long for a 6-7 month old to be awake?

at the moment, she wakes at

7am
nap at 9am for 1.5 hours

nap at 12.30-1pm for 1 hour (the nap I want to try and push to 3pm)

and a nap at 4pm for an hour (the nap I want to get rid of/merge into the second and last nap at 3)

sorry if this isnt making much sense:dizzy:
I went out today and skipped her usual nap, she got a bit whingy and cryed a bit at about 1.30, had a catnap of about 20-30 mins in the pram and now is just falling asleep for her proper nap. Im wondering if its worth her being cranky for being up so long, or is it just a case of them having to get used to the new routine? and just maybe distracting her when she gets cranky..
even if i moved her mid arvo nap forward a bit its still in the middle of the day, and then if she woke at say 3pm she would stil be awake from 3 til 7-8pm which is her bedtime iykwim?

Kaid would only usually have 2 day sleeps during the day... So sometimes he would be awake for longer then 4 hours. And it wouldn't stuff up with his night routine.

Good luck!

Hi, my bubs is 12 mths and is now only awake for 3 hrs before going to sleep.

I ahve found that the worst time of the day if he doesn't sleep is the 4pm-5 time so I would suggest from my opinion, bot getting rid of the late afternoon sleep, but maybe making the monring one shorter so at least you can be home for the other sleeps?

I might not be helping but if you can make sure bub is having a good sleep in the late arvo then you can put bubs to bed after you come back from your outings? Or alternatively yopu can stick to your sleeps (as above..) and then come up with an alternate routine for when you have to go out.. ie pick a time when you will plan your appointments then tweak the sleep times around that..

Good luck..

Hi,

My DD is 6 months old and has 2 x 2 hour sleeps per day. She goes down at 9am and 1pm. From 3pm she is awake until near 7pm bed time. From what I have read their sleep should add up in total to no more than 4 hours. Every child is different though.

hi there, my 7 month old goes down about 9.30am (till 11.30-12) then goes back down around 1.30-2.30 (till 3-4pm) then is in bed for the night at 6.30-7pm. I find 3pm in the arvo the earliest they can wake up and make it through till dinner YKWIM? I find even if my bub wakes up between 2.30-3pm i just take in a musical toy and leave him in his cot for a bit longer - even if its not all sleep the downtime seems to help him get thru the afternoon. Oh yeah - if we go out for lunch, we usually put bub to sleep in the pram afterward for a nap - not ideal but usually works ok.

Well i PM'd ya!!!!....

I'm going against the grain and saying that.... Sleep sleep sleep..... encourage them as long as they will take it....
3 naps a day is good for them at this age....

If you out and K wont sleep that's fine... Don't stress... Daniel wont sleep when we go out shopping or something like that... HE goes to sleep just fine when he gets home ...

As i said in the pm, he's not a routine bubba anymore he has put himself in a routine (he's such a smarty...) but he still has three 1.5 - 2.0hr sleeps a day and is awake for a max of 2.0 - 2.5 hours in between...
Tis all good hun x x
