I'm frantically searching the net at the moment, trying to find a list of safe and unsafe medications/creams, etc that can/can't be used during pregnancy....I can't find it anywhere.

Tam - I - Am: you seem to know a lot about what drugs are ok, can you help me perhaps??

I think I've used a cream (which my Ob gave me whilst in hospital after having DS3, so assumed it would be safe as I was using it whilst breastfeeding)yesterday and today (3 times), that I shouldn't have, and of course, now I'm completley freaking out that I'm going to cause damage, or worse still miscarriage.....I'm 15 weeks 3 days.

Anyone with info, that would be great. Thanks!!
Sarah

Not sure which state you are in but Randwick Womens Hospy has a mothersafe telephone service (http://www.sesiahs.health.nsw.gov.au/rhw/default.asp?page=104.3&template=6&leftnav=54)that specialises in this

02 9382 6539 – Sydney residents or
T 1800 647 848 – NSW residents outside Sydney
F 02 9382 6513

MotherSafe
Royal Hospital for Women
Locked Bag 2000
Randwick NSW 2031

I also know that the Victoria counterpart has the same. I would imagine that the main womens hospital for every state with obstetrics would have similar services if you a search.

A list of safe medication won't be available to a member of the general public - your best bet is to contact your local pharmacy, and ask the pharmacist (they have a guidebook of medication categorisations so they can look it up for you).

The other thing is to contact the maternity ward at your local woman's hospital (in your nearest capital city) - they will be able to tell you too.

Another thought would be to go to the manufacturers website and check the spec sheets

That is a good idea - but just a warning, if you do do that - they generally say "contraindicated in the case of known or suspected pregnancy" - but often this is just a legal precaution....It may still be quite safe.

Ok, thanks ladies. I'll call the pharmacy in the morning, and won't use it again until I know for sure.
I've looked it up, and it says that it shouldn't be used during pregnancy because it contains teratogens....so I looked that up too. I had already used it before looking it up - stupid me!

PHEW!!! I found a pharmacy that was open till 9pm and gave them a call. She said it was absolutely fine to use during pregnancy as it was a catergory A drug.

Well, I'll be able to sleep better knowing that!!
