hi tracey, :)
i dont live in hervey bay but like u live on the gold coast and agree with u 100% about the gc being an expensive place to live we r thinking about moving to hervey bay in the future too but unfortunatlly wont be able to make the move for another 6 years due to fiancial reosons ( we bought a townhouse here and to get ahead plan to live and stay her for 5 years min and maybe rent it out and buy a house up there; we r going to go to hervey bay for holidays once or twice a year to check the place out.
we moved to the sunshine coast last year and were living in caloundra but had to come back to the gc as dh couldnt get enough work, im still not thrilled about being back on the gc iykwim! but dh is getting a good wage and we bought here thanks to staying with the inlaws for 6 months and saving like mad.
i hear that hervey bay is real nice(wish we could get there sooner) but my 2 children arnt in school yet and i plan to stay at home untill they do and then go back to work so we will be looking into emplyment at hervey bay. get on realestate.com, they have some nice homes to rent in uraween and point vernon and that seems to be the newer area. have u thought about going up there for a holiday and checking the place out before u move up there? that would be a good idea, go find a local park and if u see a family with school age children ask the parents what the school and area is like where they live, i would even go find the council office at hervey bay and they would be able to give u some info on shops, schools, community facilitys etc.
we r going up to hervey bay in march(just before the easter holidays ) i can get some info for u, pm me and keep in touch if u want to, cheers:thumbsup:take care:wave:

Try posting the same question in the central caost section of the Queensland section. No one probably answered from here because Hervey Bay isnt on the Sunshine Coast. The Sunshine Coast ends at Noosa

Hello.
I'm a Hervey Bay Mummy, and no there don't seem to be many of us on here!
It's lovely up here and all the shops are open on Sundays as we're classed as a tourist town.
Schools wise I'm personally not too keen on the public system up here, certainly not when children are in highschool here anyway. The best public primary school is Sandy Straits with Yarilee running a close second. There's also a Catholic Primary school and Fraser Coast Anglican College which is the most established Private school up here, and where my son will be going in a few years.
It's a lovly place to raise children and whilst the social scene up here will have nothing on the Gold Coast the serenity and Ocean well make up for it.
Plus we're growing really quickly so we're finally getting lots of new developements and new shops.
Anyway, hope that helps.

Hi
We just moved from Hobart to Hervey Bay in November. We like it, nice beaches, not too built up yet growing, affordable, family friendly, nice climate (except for the crazy weather lately lol). To me it is quite similar to living in Hobart. And being a relatively short drive in either direction the Bundaberg or down towards the Sunshine Coast it really is a gateway to whatever you need.
The people I talk to about the midgees (sp?) in Eli Waters seem to be divided - for every one who sees them as a problem there is another who doesn't have an issue with them. Often it is the people who don't live there that tell me about them
But we have avoided the area partly due to that and partly due to some of the more boganish areas within Eli Waters.
Yep Big W is opening in March....in Pialba I think. Along with a few 'specialty' stores.
I'm also job hunting at the moment within the hospitality/tourism industry with cleaning as a last resort  and coincidently saw a bus driver job advertised this week....
with the tourism/hospitality industry being prominent I don't think you'll find it hard to find work. The transport system up here is rather small to be honest I could go all week without even passing a bus....maybe it is just in the timing.
I'm sure you'll sus it all out in March.
Good luck

thanks for the info sammi, btw my name is samantha too:laughing:,which suburbs r nice to live in, what about uraween, or pialba, oh yeah i noticed that u put in a thread that u r moving to the sunshine coast , to be near the uni, we lived in caloundra(battery hill/near ****y beach) and we were renting a run down 4brm house for $300 per week and the , if u want to be in a modern home expect to pay $3oo plus per week, their is a suburb near caloundra, (little mountain) and they have new homes their in an estate called belvista but they may be a bit pricey:rolleyes:, i didnt like sunshine coast personally because i was told it is growing big like the gold coast and thats what we r getting away from, anyway hervey bay sounds great and i cant wait to get up there, we will be eventually buying a house up their and from what i see on realestate.com we could afford a nice one up there, thanks again:thumbsup:

Hey
Well i live in H'Bay and I think either Pialba, Wondunna or Urraween are the best suburbs to live in. You can pay $270 for a new 4 bedroom home in Urraween!
The only decent primary schools are Pialba or Kawungan. If you want your children at a high school i would send them private!
Daycares are pretty average, I recommend Family Day Care in H'Bay. You just have to look around at what you think is the best though.
I dont think we will be as big as the Gold Coast for atleast another 10 years. You ask anyone, its more newly weds or nearly deads here.
Hope this helps!!

Hello, I've just been reading this forum as we're considering moving from Townsville and Maryborough/Hervey Bay are an option for us (we stayed in Maryborough for a week last year and loved it!!!).
Traceylee - you mentioned a Fraser Coast forum??? I'm probably blind but where do I go to find this forum? :detective:
Cheers, Conor

:yelclap::yelclap:hi hervey bay mums and to be:)
well u may have seen a few posts in this thread by urs truly on page one i think, we r moving to hervey bay in 2 years, it was 3 years but we now know from our bank who we have a morgage with that we can get out of our fixed 4 year home loan for a small fee, and i think its worth it as we want to sell our overpriced townhouse on the gold coast and buy a 3brm house in hervey bay for less than what u can buy one here:yes:
we went to hervey bay for a holiday at easter time and loved it, going back in november for a two week stay. we stayed in torquay but went around all the suburbs and my favorite is urangan, we looked around at the houses for sale and they are nice and affordable, we looked at the priamary schools and i like the look of urangan point priamary, its only got 250 students enrolled there this year and that sounds good to me as i dont want my children to go to a huge school, there is another school in urangan called sandy straits priamary school, its only been there about 10 years but its huge and right next door to the high school.
urangan pier is lovely to go for a walk down in the afternoon, my kids loved to run up and down it and see the fishermen catch fish.
the esplanade has a great walking and bike path, we walked and rode bike down their a fair bit. the only downfall for us was it was raining over easter so didnt get to see or do much, we did venture to the shopping centres a bit(pialba place and centro) we hope to see and do a lot more when we go back in november, i want to take the kids to the aquatic centre for a swim and try out a few of the resterants and cafes.
we did go to the RSL for lunch and thats really nice and family friendly.
i hear bayaroma cafe makes the best coffee in the bay and they won a hospitality award, will go there for a coffee one day.
now to the parks: we only went to two parks on the esplanade, one in torquay and scarness, the one in scarness was great, lots of swings, slides and the beach seems to be popular with the families, didnt get to go to apex park or the park in urangan in dayman st but thats another thing to do in november,
my overall point of veiw of hervey bay was great, its nice and friendly and relaxed, the only buisy part is the strip on boat harbour drive where all the shopping faciities are, and there are heaps of those:flowerz:
hey ,i read all the threads.. we are moving to hervey bay too , from outside of australia, my husband wants to go first , so that he can arrange things for us , my and my son , who is about 2 yrs old, and that because he thinks because we wont be having a home and car to move around ( as he says there isn't a bus service or anything) and i will not be able to move around except that , and so until he goes there arranges the money me n my son cant come... i just want to know how much money do we really need to start a life in hervey bay ? and is car really a must ?
i would really appreciate u guy's help, as i dont want to be left alone stranded here without him..
