Well I had my CVS on Wed and should have had the prilimanary results today but they did not get enough of a sample to do the FISH test, now I have my fingers crossed for the next 7-10days that there are enough cells to give us an answer, it is really quiet depressing.
Any way I was wondering if anyone knows much about the blood tests that go with the scan.
These are mine
Nuchal fold 4.2mm
Free Beta HcG 29.00 IU/I, equivalent to 0.9069 MoM
PAPPA-A 3.70 IU/I, equivalent to 1.6999MoM

Does any of this mean anything to anyone or am I now clutching at straws.
Could there still be hope?
Thanks

Gosh,... I really dont have any answers to your questions,..but couldn't bear to leave your thread unanswered,.....

Was there a Dr at the place you had your ultrasound and CVS at? I know that when I get mine done, I always have a consult with their Dr afterwards,.. maybe call them tomorrow and ask to speak to a Dr and go through your questions,.. it is very wrong of them to give you that answer and then make you wait 10days,...... that;s what I would do,....:hugs:

:hugs: After having the nerve wracking wait until now, then to be told they didn't take enough sample... I'm thinking of you.

I can't answer your questions, sorry. I quickly, just then, googled Free Beat hcg, and it came up with many websites...perhaps you could find some information on one of those that may help you with the levels you have received back? Just a thought....

Take it easy, Sarah

Sorry I don't know much about this sort of testing but I found some info from an Australian online book chapter that had some info that was relevant.

http://www.fetalmedicine.com/11-14scanbook/Chapter1/chap01-2.htm

The reading is very heavy going medical jargon and the calculation of the risk is really complicated but I found this explanation...

"In trisomy 21 during the first trimester of pregnancy, the maternal serum concentration of free b-hCG is usually higher than in chromosomally normal fetuses. The usual reading for b-hCG for a trisomy 21 baby is around 2.0 MoM, whereas PAPP-A is lower than in normal babies (around 0.5 MoM for trisomy 21)".

So although your nuchal fold thickness is quite high (the average measure for trisomy 21 is apparently around 4mm), the other serum screening results don't seem to fit with a typical trisomy 21 result.

I definitely think there is some hope :cloud9: Remember a 1/60 chance means that 59 times out of 60 there is absolutely nothing wrong!

Are you going to need to have another test done?? In the article it says that CVS has a 2% miscarriage rate:(

I really feel for you having to wait so long :hugs: It must be so agonising :(

Sincerely, Al.

:hugs: So sorry to hear that you still have to wait, I agree with SJ, I would suggest you try and speak to a specialist to try and get all your questions answered. There must be someone that can give you more of an insight. All my thought are with you at this trying time. Please keep us updated, even if you just want to have someone to talk too

Hi,
I recently had my tests aswell. I wasnt able to have the blood test componant because, well with 3 bubs, things would just be confused anyway.
They were able to give me a confident all clear based on the US alone. If your US is all within normal range that should be a pretty good sign that all is well.
I am not a Dr but the best advice I could think to give you is this- Relax, take care of your self and think positive thoughts. Take care.

So sorry to hear that you have to wait so long, this has to be incredibly stressful. I'm sure its no comfort but there is a 98% chance that everything will be fine. I hope that this sorts quickly for you, sending every luck your way,

I went through a CVS just before Xmas (2nd time Ive had to have one). If they ddnt get enough for the FISH test, just sit tight for the final results in about ten days. I know easier said than done.

The bloods by themselves can be misleading so dont try to read too much into them.

Good luck with your results.
