View Full Version : Is it dangerous to allow 7mnt old to sleep wrapped?
Last night, after trying to get DD to sleep for over an hour, as a last resort, I decided to wrap her up and rock her. Almost as soon as I wrapped her, she feel asleep. She loved being wrapped as a newborn, but I stopped wrapping her at about 5 months old...
I contemplated putting her in the cot wrapped up, but wondered whether it could be a sids risk. So I undid the wrap.
Would it be dangerous to let her sleep wapped up. She wakes 4 times a night, and I'm wondering whether it may help her sleep better.. but obviously I wouldn't if there was risk involved.
I went back to wrapping my DS and he's very close to 7 months. Stops him from pulling his dummy out or just waving his arms around.

And he sleeps wrapped in the cot and doesn't get out of it or roll?

My DD1 was wrapped until 11 months old and DD2 was wrapped until about 7 months but i still sometimes wrap her to go to sleep and she is 13 months old. It is now only usually when she is not well or unsettled. She usually unwraps herself nearly as soon as she is asleep but it helps getting her off to sleep.
Can't see a problem with it.
What about using wrapping to calm her and then loosen the wrap once you put her into the cot?

Yep - as I type he's wrapped and napping with a sheet over the top. I wrap his arms quite low (ie across his tumy) because I'm paranoid about wrapping him tightly around the chest.
We wrapped our last bub to 16mths and our DS until he was 15mths. We were very careful to follow SIDs guidelines and made sure she couldn't roll and get caught. She was firmly double wrapped and tucked in very very securely. That's the only way they would sleep.
Even now at 17mths and 4 yo both of mine, will wrap themselves in their sheets. My 4yo often pulls the pillow on top of him as well sigh!
I think I may have gone a wee bit loopey if I did not wrap my little twins. My Early childhood nurse said that they recommend wrapping until the baby no longer wants is which is usually past 12 months.
I love wrapping. The only thing is that in summ er you are meant to strip her down to just a nappy and wrap in muslin or cheese cloth.

I wouldnt think so. If you wrapped tightly so your DD couldnt unwrap herself, then i cant see it being a problem. I wrapped my DS until he was 8 months. I dont think i would have survived the early months if i hadnt.

My dd is nearly 7mths and being wrapped is the only way she'll go to sleep.
If your worried about her going to slap wrapped but rolling out of it and getting the wrap over her head, maybe tucking in a sheet across the top of her could help that.
great! this could be the answer to our sleeping problems! I had it in my head that you weren't supposed to wrap after 6 months, or when they begin to roll.. but I guess if you wrap them tight enough there shouldn't be a problem...
