Hi

I have recently started my Doula course with CBI and as most of you know will have to attend two births. So my question is when do I start looking for them. Can I do it before I get to the last manual or do I have to do it after I have finished the last manual.

I am not sure how long it will take me to get to the point of attending the births so should I look now for ladies who are due in 7months time or wait until I am nearly finished and find someone who is close to being due.

Thanks in advance

Hi

You can really start looking at any stage, for me I felt it was important that I was far enough into it that I would actually be able to help someone, rather than feeling like a bit of a third wheel iykwim. So I waited until I was almost finished.

The drawback was that I started looking in about August/September and the mums I had then weren't due until November and December...so I'd finished all my theory and I then I was waiting a fair while for them to birth before I could really "finish".

I think about halfway through would probably work well, the CBI course is lengthier than other courses theory-wise so that way you'd probably be pretty right.

Hi Emmylou

Thank you for your reply. I think I will wait until I have completed some more of the manuals. I think I am just really excited and can't wait to get in there.

Thanks again.
