Hi,
My name is Stacey and I'm not Australian I'm from the UK, I'm trying to trace an old friend of my mums who is from Paralowie. They were good friends about 20 years ago and sadly lost contact a few years after her friend went back to Australia. We have tried everything to find her. Her name is Debbie D. but she could be married now. I know this is a long shot but you never know. Is my mum's memory is worth anything (hehe) she says she used to live on Vindana Road and she thinks she had one brother and one sister (shes just added that the sister is a DEFINATE). She'll be about 40ish now. If anybody does know a debbie d. my mums name is Denise Malpas from Manchester.
Thanks for reading this, hope somebody can help
Stacey

Hi malpas85!! I may be able to help - or at least my parents might. but I need more info. I grew up on Vindana Road in Paralowie!! We moved there in 1979/80 and left approx 1992 or thereabouts. Do you know roughly when she lived on that road? We were there when the street was just built. It was originally all (or mostly) housing trust from what I understand. Mum and Dad knew most people in the street but it was quite a long one and went around a bend (making it sort of 'L' shape) and it was difficult to know the people all the way around the corner. But can you tell me any of the following or anything else at all - whether Debbie was a child, teenager or adult when she lived there? Married/single? Dark hair/ fair? House number she lived in? whether she was in the short or long end of the street? Approx years she was there? Any idea of the brother or sister names? and did she live there with them or was she all grown up and living by herself?
Really any more info that I can use to remember myself and throw at my parents.... We still have contact with a few of the residents from our time so we might be able to do something :fingerscrossed:

oh wow !! I'll have to wait for my mum to get home because she knows far more than me because debbie had gone back to Australia before i was born so I think she went to Vindana road roughly 1985 when she was in her early 20's or late teens. I'll post again in a few hours when I've got more info off my mum.
Thanks a lot for your help :)

I've got my mum sat here now to go other it all with me ...
She lived in the 40's maybe number 43 or 45 but she is sure it was in the 40's. She would have been about 19 in 1985 when she went back to Vindana Road, It was her parents house and from memory my mum thinks her parents may have been called jacky and terry but thats not 100% she also thinks that her dad was a mechanic or something to do with cars. The full family come to the UK and went back together, she also thinks her sister may have been called christine or christina or something along them lines. My mum said at the time debbie was slim with shoulder lengh dark brown wavey hair and was about 5 foot 2. My mum says they lived at that address for a fair few years. My mum also says that another one of there friends from to uk called Gary A. used to go over and stay with them every year to watch some (decent) cricket.
Hope some of this is useful !! and thanks again :)

Hi again!! Well we lived at number 38!!! How exciting. I need to talk to my parents and go thru a serious stack of memories (as I was only 8 years old in 1985!!) But between me, my brother and Mum and Dad, and the neighbours they still have contact with, we'll see what we can come up with. It may take a few days though so keep checking back here

Sorry, I didn't mean to leave you hanging! I have spoken to Dad and that was interesting but it required some following up with Mum and she's been working long hours so been difficult to catch her. It will happen either tonight or over the weekend though so I haven't gone away and forgotten about you :flowerz:

Ok. I have spoken to Mum. Apparently the house numbers went up the street and around the corner. Eg. we were number 38 then the house on the corner was 40 and so on around the corner. The house directly across the road from us were named Veronica & Ian and they only had 1 son named Aaron who I believe is now a doctor. Next door to them heading up in numbers were named Bob and Jenny. Mum couldn't be specific about their children if any but remembered they had a boat. Next door to us in number 40 was originally a deaf and mute couple who had two little daughters then when they moved out a lady named Pat moved in with her teenage grand daughter. Next door on the other side of us was Anne & Allan with 1 daughter Melissa and 1 son Shaun. Across from them was a family that had 2 daughters, named Tanya & Kylie (I think) and a younger son named Troy.
Further around the corner moving up in the numbers we didn't really have anything to do with as you tended not to cross paths out in the street as it was like 2 seperate streets and you couldn't even see what was going on around there.
Basically of all the names that Mum, Dad and myself could collectively remember, we couldn't sseem to place a Jackie or Terry and we couldn't recall anyone with older children around the age you described.
I am really sorry I can't help you any further. I do have the phone number of Veronica & Ian from across the road though and may be able to find a contact for Aaron if he is in fact a doctor as I've heard. They would have been only 1 or 2 houses away from your mum's friend so they may know more. So if you are brave enough to phone a stranger in another country I'd be happy to forward that to you by PM or email. It's listed in the Adelaide phone directory, but I will keep the surname between you and I.

No worries. I have the address for Veronica and Ian too if you'd like to write to them. They lived in the same street at the same time and were on the same side of the road a couple of houses down, so they might know something??
Otherwise try the Australian Electoral Commission maybe.
Good Luck!
Maybe if you have any success you could pop babck in here one day and just let us all know you'd found her or something. That would be nice
