I am 20 weeks pregnant and have previously had an extensive DVT (blood clot). I have been tested during this pregnancy and advised that I am positive for one of the clotting genes??? (don't really understand this ....) anyway, I have been advised by the GP to start having 40mg injections once per day along with 70mg asprin.
I am worried what effects if any this may have on my baby and myself? Has anybody been in a similiar situation and could shed some light on this.

I am also on a high dose of anti-depressants (combination of 2) - stressing that my poor little bub is going through one terrible time trying to develop into a healthy baby!!!

I also have the 40mg of clexane and 75mg of aspirin daily.Mine was for previous dvt aswell.

The specialist has said that this wont affect bub at all,or myself.

I was told, the only thing is if i have had my injection with in so many hours of going into labour,i cant have an epidural,as there will be a risk of a bleed in the spine.

I havnt had the anti depressants while pg,but im sure the doctors would only give you something that was safe for bub.
Can you see a doctor,so you can get all these questions answered so you can understand a bit more about it all?
Maybe then you will feel a bit better.

Good luck.

I have been on twice daily injections of clexane since about 7 weeks along and my bubs is fine. I also showed a positive for a clotting disorder - perhaps ask your doc a bit more about that if you are not sure as it can be important for your future health.

I have not had anti-depressants but like PP I am sure doc would not prescribe something if it is not safe for you AND bubs.

Good luck - hope all goes well for you

i have also had several dvt's in the past. one was very extensive (my whole left leg and part of my hip and tummy) and the others i got them just after i gave birth in my right leg. i was on clexane injections with my last pregnancy as well as this one. they should switch you over to twice daily injections of heparin when you get to 36 weeks. it is a shorter acting drug than clexane so it takes less time to wear off so you can have an epidural if you need one.

my dd is now 2 and she is perfectly fine. the reasons i got the clot after her birth was that i had a very long labour (so didn't have blood thinners for nearly 5 days) combined with a long epidural (over 12 hours) and no support stockings.

big tip - remember to pack your support stockings in your hospital bag.

I will be also having the same, AD and clexane, and my doc said they should be fine together. Well its obvious that it would be better with no drugs at all but in my case I need them. Hope things go well for you, and Im still waiting to do another test but Im pretty sure I have finally got my :bfp:.!!
In my case the doc has told me that Im only to have the clexane for the first 3 months??????? Why would this be do you think? Cos after reading a lot of other posts about clexane, most girls have to have it for the entire pregnancy.
