Well the birthday party & blessing on Saturday to which all went fairly smoothly !
I kept having nightmares that something would go wrong with the cake or it would look ugly etc but Sat morning when i picked it up it was fine yayayay :yelclap:
Wasnt exactly what i wanted but it looked gorgeous all the same.
Had so many things go wrng prior to the celebrations i was a nervous wreck !
So when the time came to cut it we were all excited & bubs had his hands in it etc LOL then i realised "mmmm they look like sultanas in the cake weird ! Oh well no biggie " then i saw something else fall off one slice as i cut it & realised " OH MY ! NUTS !!!!! "
Can you believe it the cake place put nuts in the butter cake !!!!! Even knowing it was for a childs birthday !!!! I was devastated !
Luckily i hadnt given Harry his piece yet as he was still being passed around the family !
So i was dissappointed he didnt even get to have any of his cake :(
Better still i managed not to throw a tantrum or burst into tears !!!!
Then because i had asked everyone rather than buying birthday gifts if they would contribute something to his time capsule that will be opened on his 18th birthday.
So guess what most people did ! They treated it like his 18th birthday !!!! So he got a frame that says " Happy 18th Birthday " & a wine glass that says " Happy 18th " *sigh* my family are so imaginative LOL they were even saying "Gees he will be peeved come his 18th when none of us buy gifts  . Luckily my mum gave him stuff that was my Dad's & wrote him a letter as did my Nan as well as my aunty buying a newspaper with his birth date etc. I was so interested to see what people would get & have to say it was a little bit sad but none the less funny.
Im hoping next years goes a little smoother LOL !
Will just have a "normal" celebration this time hopefully then people wont misunderstand !

What a shame about the cake! What a silly thing for the cake place to do, knowing it was for a child!

I would have understood the time capsule thing! I think it's odd that people bought 18th gifts! :p Oh well, i'm sure it was just a misunderstanding. Maybe you'll have to give examples next time! :D

Yes can you believe it !!!!
Even my Mum shook her head !
Yes next time there will be examples given but i just thought it was obvious as its a "time capsule" not his 18th LOL.
Oh wells

I'm sorry Allyoo, what a shame. A 1st birthday is supposed to be special ( which I'm sure it was), I would be giving that cake place a piece of my mind if I were you. But congrats on staying calm, I most likely would have chucked a wobbly.

What a great idea about the time capsule, I would have definately understood it. I just love the idea, may even use myself. Am always looking for different ideas. I mean really, how many toys and clothes can they have.

Well, I hope you had a great day anyway. :hugs:

Exactly !
We thought all he will get is more stuffed animals LOL
I stole the idea off someone else on here as i thought it was great. They were saying how people bought a guiness book of records, coins etc so i thought " yeah thats great ! " LOL oh wells !
I think what made it great no matter what was his blessing :D
He was so good through it & my cousin did an awesome job as he made it more personal by speaking about what his name meant etc & then he was blessed by the whole family as they stood in a circle around us & those close enough could touch him where as others just held the hands of those that could so it was really powerful & amazing. What sealed it for me was when my cousin was speaking a certain part earlier on Harry looked at him & clapped heheheh so gave his own seal of approval :yelclap: hehehehe.
I was so proud of him so it didnt really matter in the end that things went wrong.

That is so special. I guess you just have to look for the positives in a situation like that. Sounds like you had a great day in the end.

Yeah, what is with those stuffed animals? What a waste of time.

I am hearing you. I thought people knew better these days. I have some absolutely gorgeous stuffed toys which must have cost a bit of money......they are sitting on her shelf collecting dust. :banghead:

Hey was the little man tonight? All tuckered out I bet?

Oh yes !
Last nite we got home after it all & he was so buggered he just sat in his car seat not even worried about being taken in first LOL He usually has the arms & legs flailing saying get me out get me out heheheheh !
Then today he has been out of sorts i think because he had so much attention yesterday to go to nothing today & have two parents who were too exhausted to play all day LOL so he refused to have any sleeps yay fun NOT !!!!
Then was trying to keep his eyes open just before bed so went off without a peep :smiliedance:
Hopefully tomorrow he is back into routine !

I'm sure today will be all back to normal. :fingerscrossed: Nothing worse then a day out of routine. Is it just me or do others panic when routine is out of whack? I get scared when Olivia is out of routine, thinking this is going to bugger it up for good, then panic about it. I took me soooo long to get into a good daytime routine, night time has gone to s**t. :banghead:

Oh well, hopefully you guys have a great day, with naps. Thats my idea of a good day.

What an awesome idea! I think I might borrow (read:steal) that one from you.

Sorry about your cake though... but he won't remember.. I know that's not the point.. just trying to make you feel better. :hugs: Hope you enjoyed the day despite that.

don't forget to write a diary entry of the day's event with some pics to put in the capsule! ;)

tho, then he'll find out he never had any of his b'day cake... :o

i think it made a very memorable day for you, if you aren't already i'm sure you'll look back & laugh!

btw - i think the 18th gifts might work out ok, anyway... by that time who knows if they'll have the same kind of stuff around? & if they do, it'd be interesting, too - it'll just show him how slowly things can change... lol

Hey Im glad to hear that its went well....

As for the cake shop putting nuts in it...what a bunch of twits!!! Its for a child and what if people had a nut allergy:banghead: They just dont think!!!! Id be calling the shop and asking why they did that......

My mum used to be a pro cake decorator and trust me seeing what she went through with cakes- hah its easier NOT to do your own..... she has passed on her talents to me so Ive been doing cakes for years too....and they are not as easy as hey seem- but then again we do wedding cakes and kids cakes that are all painted and have hand made roses etc...etc.... so that could be why lol:rolleyes:

And the glasses and frames.....ohhhhhhh some people lol

Ohh well it could have been much worse....as long as everyone enjoyed it then its all good!!
