Hi Everyone,

My mum has insisted on throwing me a baby shower. I am busy thinking of different ideas for the day, so I thought it would be good to see what everyone else is doing / your ideas.

i really have no idea what to do.

my mum wont throw me one, so i might just have a small gathering.

To be honest, i would feel a bit cheeky inviting work peeps and friends to baby shower to give me gifts! haha I know everyone does it, but i'm just weird like that!! :P
Although it would be nice! My friend said she would throw me one when it gets closer to the date, so that is nice! :)

how come kayla?
you already have everything you need? or just not feeling it?

I think just a small gathering with close friends before the bubs comes will be nice... some of my friends have bubs, so it'll be good to chat about things with them then! :)

Because most of my friends are my age and would never be interested in that sorta thing plus i dont even see most of them anymore since getting pregnant i have new interestes now, 2 people to look after and think about, money to save for bubs, i have matured and there still doing wat most teens do.

I would have liked a babyshower but i guess im lucky enough in the way that my parents are helping and buying most of bubs stuff.

ooh that's fair enough.
sounds good about your parents helping out! :)

I must admit since becoming pregnant i haven't seen a few of my 'anti baby' friends which is a shame. I must admit i have become quite pre-occupied aswell and haven't made much of an effort as well! oops! :P

It is good of them i guess without bubs dad around they kinda feel like they need to help out, they would never want there grandchild going without.

I guess its normal for our friends without bubs to not come around as often or call because its like our lives are now going in 2 different directions.

Im just hoping to meet some friends at play group, things like that.

I'm having a baby shower YAY :yelclap:

My mum said there is one tradition that we have to keep up- you get all the ribbons that are around the presents you recieve and stick them with sticky tape to a paper plate. Then the mummy-to-be has to wear the plate as a 'bonnet'. Should make for some memorable pics!

That will indeed make for some memorable pics Leishie!! Be sure to post them!

I'm not having a baby shower this time around - it's my second baby, and Isaac is still a baby really, and we live in Canberra now and have no close friends or family near by, so no-one to really celebrate with.

My sister-in-law threw my baby shower for me last time though - and it was great. It was an afternoon tea - so lots of yummy nibblies, and we played some games (nothing too lame - I told them I wasn't playing lame games!) and opened lots of presents and just got a chance to catch up with all of my family and friends which was wonderful.

Kayangel - would your family throw you a baby shower? And you could get together with all your rellies and show off your bump. That's what was great about mine - those that didn't see me that often made the effort to get to the baby shower and got to see me very, very preggers!

My best friend is so excited that I'm pregnant. She has an 8 week old baby boy and we always said when we were younger that we wanted to have babies around the same time so they could grow up together like we did. She's going to organise my baby shower for me, right down to making the invitations herself.

Around what time do you usually hold a baby shower?

I'm having a small baby shower this time around . Only close family and friends to celebrate the arrival of bub .
I want to have a high tea this time where we can dress up nicely and have a tea party with sweet cakes, slices and biscuits .
Can't wait .

All my family are interstate, so when I fly back for my sister's twins birthday the first weekend in March, my lovely sister is holding my baby shower then.

It will be an afternoon tea - the hardest thing is that my sister made me sit down with her at Christmas and make a list of gift ideas - difficult when you have to get them back in a suitcase. Not that I really care are pressies - we have so much for bub already. The shower is more about seeing all the people i love!

im not sure if im having a baby shower. i was thinking of having a 'meet the bub' type thing after shes born. because i really want mum there and if i have a baby shower she wont be able to be there! so its a bit of an effort. but ill guess ill wait and see... if someone wants to organise a baby shower... i have no problems... but i dont know if would be right without mum being there!

thats my input!

My baby shower was really great we had heaps of fun.

I had a lady come over who does baby shower parties, she organised all the games and had a small stall there of baby items that my guests could purchase for me on the day. It was quite good. The games we played were, we had a paper plate and had to put it on our head and draw what the baby would look like. Another game was there was about 6 or so disposable nappies with different chocolates smooshed inside so it looked rather icky, but you had to guess by smelling it what chocolate it was. The other game was what was in your handbag and you got a certain amount of points for having different things in your bag. Each winner received prizes. They weren't really lame and didn't take too long the rest of the time was just spent eating and chatting. Not sure if i'll have one this time, i am thinking of doing something completely different though this time. It will be more about me and the babies birth, so writing wishes for the baby, getting candles and things for the actual birth and getting a massage or something! lol

Hi Lauren,

Decorations: I'm not sure where to get them from. I just had some blue and silver baloons, and we put all the drinks and ice in the baby bath as a centrepiece on the table.

Food: We had little frozen quieshes (not sure how to spell), spring rolls, pasties etc that my mum put in the oven, salad, little gormet sandwhiches on a nice tiered serving platter. I can't remember what else sorry.

Gifts for guests: My mum bought some little packs of lindor chocolates as gifts, and bottles of wine as prizes for the games

Games: We did one where everyone cut a piece of string the size they thought my belly was and we saw who was the closest. Everyone thought my belly was about twice the size it really is. I did it to without measuring against myself and got it exact, although I couldn't win as it was my belly. My SIL came the closest so won.

We also had a quiz with questions about me as a kid, DH as a kid (as some of his family there) and about the pregnancy. Such as what hospital was I born in, what cravings have I had since being pregnant, how much weight have I gained, what was the name of my cat growing up etc.

Also everyone had a go at guessing stuff about the birth and wrote there predictions on a chart, so I am still to see who is right. The questions were: name of baby (I gave them my shortlist of names), date will be born, time of day born, weight, height, eye colour, hair colour, where will me waters break.
