hello, I am 10 weeks pregnant and have been sick almost from the time we found out I was pregnant...I have only vomited twice but I feel like vomiting all of the time. I saw my GP for the general tests and I have not put on any weight at all...I am a little worried because I know that I am not eating all the good foods I am supposed to be eating....I can't look at milk or chicken and I am off vegies when I used to love them before. I am eating fairly bland foods like salada biscuits with vegemite, pasta and toast...I can eat only pears and apples and I am only drinking water......I know I will start to feel better but I am worried that I am not giving our bubba the best of foods......
Worried but very happy first Mum Mary:smiliedance:

Try not to worry too much...I didn't eat anything for the first 10 weeks, lost 14 kgs and still gave birth to a near 9lb baby....

Hello!
Sorry you are feeling sick all of the time! You sound EXACTLY like me when I was pregnant! I was the same and I gave birth to a nice healthy baby boy who was 8pd1oz! Don't worry, hopefully it will ease off in a few weeks and you will find your appetite again! If you need it your body will tell you, it's good at that!

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon! :hugs:

Awwww thanks! Yeh, just take what the books say with a grain of salt! Sometimes they make you stress a whole lot more than what you should! The books would say that if I had cramps it could be a m/c but I had them the whole way through without any dramas at all and I was sooooo stressed! So everyone is different! They just put in the 'general' information about pregnancy. And remember, the baby will get whatever nutrients it needs from you so don't worry :p

Go the salada's! I was onto Jatz myself and ginger beer. Just the thought of the ginger now makes me feel ill! Lol! Bad memories! But MMMM pistachios! Yummo! :p

i had really bad morning sickness (afternoon & night also) it was bad from 2 weeks pregnant til just after giving birth, nothing i ate would stay down but obviously enough stuff for my baby did. i would be sick at 5-10 times per day, not even saladas or water would stay down. anyway my DD was 6pounds 14 ounces and healthy so try not to worry too much,as long as you are eating things whether they stay down or not everything should be fine:)

I hear exactly what you're saying. I had the same problem - was sick right through my pregnancy. Even ended up on a drip in hospital coz I couldn't keep anything down, but gave birth to a beautiful healthy boy. Don't worry about it - just eat small nibbles frequently during the day.

Good luck - I hope you start feeling better soon :)

Yep i had 24hrs 7 days a week sickness LOL or hyperemesis.
I lost 15kgs in the first 7mths & then regained it all in the last 2mths  but i had a baby who weighed just off 10lb
So dont stress remember bubs takes everything from you so what you eat is to keep you going etc & the best advice i can give you is eat what you want LOL if that means you can only keep down oranges then eat them ! At least then you have something in your tummy !
Good luck i hope things settle for you :hugs:

i had 24/7 sickness during my entire pregnancy. i ended up losing 24kg and never quite regained my pre-pregnancy weight before dd was born. still haven't lost all that weight i gained again in the last months (bummer). your baby will be fine even if you don't eat much at all. i pretty much lived on mcdonalds nuggets and fries for 3 months then switched to pork sausages and mashed potato for about 6 weeks. your baby takes the nutrients it needs from your body. if necessary it will use up your fat stores for you. (how nice of it). my dd was born 2 weeks overdue and weighed 7pounds6.

I was extremely sick with #2, lost a lot of weight and couldnt stand the smell or look of most foods, even just looking at a chocolate bar on the shelves in the supermarket made me vomit. All i could stomach was crusty bread rolls, lettuce and apples. My son was 2 weeks overdue and weighed 9lb 11oz and was 54cm long

It's definitely reassuring to hear I am not the only one going through a tough time! I have just entered my 2nd trimester (15 weeks) and am still suffering severe hyperemesis :banghead: I have been in hospital every week since week 9 as I get to the point where I dehydrate and require a drip to boost my fluids. My doctor has now prescribed Ondansetron to releive me of this, and I must say, it's a miracle drug :smiliedance: . It's certainly not for everyone (and studies show short term use will not affect the baby) but it's just about the last step if you suffer as severley as I have. It is the only thing that allows me to drink ASWELL as eat, and gives me a life outside the toilet floor!
Keep your chin up to everyone who has suffered, and remember, morning sickness is usually a sign of a very healthy baby! ;)
Eat what you can, when you can, and know the baby will always look after #1 - themselves! They get all the nutrients they need, which is no small feat if the poor mum can't even hold a sip of water down!!
Enjoy !!!!!!!!!! :)

Bubby sucks every last bit of the goodness out of what you are putting in, and he/she doesn't need all that much, so don't worry.

As my 4 yr old would tell me when I had my head in the toilet back in September and October... "Mum don't worry, your body doesn't care about you, it's just looking after the baby coz he's more important" :D

It's easy to get a bit overwhelmed with the whole morning sickness experience. IME, it's better to eat something, then throw that up, than eat nothing and throw up bile. If the food is in your stomach for more than a few minutes, then at least some of the nutrients are being absorbed.

Try Sea Bands, they're an accupressure thing you get from a chemist, you wear them on your wrists and they worked amazingly for me this time around. Also, ginger ale can really help.

Try not to worry too much about what you're exactly eating and how much weight you've exactly lost/put on. Just try to stay positive, eat what you can, drink plenty of water (I found mineral water to be fantastic, the fizzy stuff, because it's still just water but the fizziness made me burp which settled my stomach). Take your pregnancy vitamins, you'll be fine

If it's any consolation, with this pregnancy I was 10kgs lighter at 20 wks than I was when I conceived. Now, I'm too bl**dy scared to weigh myself LOL I'm definately making up for it now!! I feel like a bottomless pit, I'm trying to make sure I eat healthy foods - but I can seriously eat 5 apples in a row, and still be hungry!!! Now please excuse me while I go eat my chocolate mudcake cupcake....

That sounds exactly like ive been feeling for the past few weeks, though I have to say ive been feeling better for the last three days. Thank god.

I was worried about the baby getting enough vitamins from me too, cause I wasn't eating much for a while there, so I went and got some Elevit vitamins and I take those every day now. They may not be totally necessary but it puts my mind to rest.
My sister kept telling me that foetus' are like parasites, though, they will take everything they need from you even if it means you feel horrid for it :)

So since finding out my baby is a parasite *chuckle*, i've slowly been trying to eat more and I think that's what's helped me feel better lately. Fruit is really good, it was the only thing I could eat for a while there, its light and fresh and doesnt make you feel horrid.
I have a cup of tea every now and then and dry biscuits are also good.
Just go out or get someone else to go out for you and buy lots of little snack foods, fruit cups, fresh fruit and vegies, dry sweet biscuits, baked beans, bread so you can have toast, v8 citrus juice (the vege tomato one is kinda gross), Up&Go. Stuff like that thats easy to prepare and comes in small servings. Even if its just a chocolate milk, try to eat or drink something every now and then so you have nutrients, not just your baby.
Up&Go is really good for the mornings I found.

I hope you start feeling better soon. I still feel a little off, but im heaps better than what I was, Im just hoping it stays this way!! :hugs:

hello, I am 15 weeks pregnant at the moment starting from today and was sick most of the time between my 8th week and my 14th week and now i feel better but with a lil tiny bit of nausea if i get out of bed too fast. I didnt see the doctor about my morning sickness as I started taking the blackmores morning sickness tablets. Since finding out I was pregnant I havent put on weight but somedays ive lost 1 or 2 kgs then in a few days time that 1 or 2 kgs goes back on. Im still worried im not eating all the good foods that Im supposed to be eating either...At the moment I cant drink much milk unless its flavoured (even then its only a small amount I drink) and I am off vegies. Im mostly eating foods like biscuits, clix biscuits, toast with better and vegemite, any pasta meals (besides 2 min noodles)...I can eat watermelons and can of peaches with ice-cream and Im still only drinking water but someday I have red cordial or soft drink.

The Gentle Birth Midwifery archives have a plethora of pregnancy related nausea resources:-

Good luck experimenting to find what works best for you. It's a difficult time - I remember all too well those months of constant debilitating illness. It does pass, though - sometimes it helps to focus on that and repeat it like a mantra! :)

hello all!
well, I am now nearly 17 weeks pregnant and my appetite is definetely back!

My morning sickness subsided around 14 weeks which is great...I find the most useful thing is to eat small regular meals...If I get even the slightest bit hungry its enough to make me vomit....

thanks for all your replies...I am definetely alot better and have gained 1.4 kgs!!!!
