View Full Version : How to look after yourself
OK I have been refused care by the hospital and from the supervisor of midwifes. So while I try and fight the hospital for harassment and possible press story. I shall be looking after myself and probably freebirthing.
I have seen no one apart from when Mr lying midwife came to visit even then it was just check my BP and bubba HB.
So I have a BP machine worth buying a doppler?
What else?
I am at the point where I feel as if I would know if something was wrong and seek help etc HA help from a medical professional god help me lol
SO how do you look after yourself?

I was going to say that too:p
why did you end up refusing care, did something happen?
as, for your question, I don't know. I'd look up personal experiences online in forums/blogs etc

Seriously though, I think with freebirthing, so much of it is up to how much trust you place in yourself and your body.
I have a friend who freebirthed all three of her children. During her third pregnancy, she saw no-one, had no tests and trusted herself entirely. She is an amazing woman! Her DH is an amazing man too and trusts her completely. He delivered each baby-the first one on his own, the second with the help of the firstborn and the third with the help of the first and second born.
It is entirely your decision as to how you manage (terrible word but it's late!) your pregnancy and the birth. There are some pretty amazing women out there and some of them are on this forum, so I am sure you will receive some experienced advice from them.:hugs::hugs::hugs:
Borntobe I didn't refuse any care I have been refused care in my own home as I had a EMCS the first time around.
It's such a mess lol
FC we shall all return one day but the adventure is just starting and it's going pretty well + we haven't even made it to Europe yet lol
I trust myself completly, my DH trusts me he is right into it he's nervous but into it :D

But, I just wanted to say that I think you are amazing and clever and wise and you will be brilliant at birthing your baby no matter what. :yelclap:

oh, well that sucks! I'm in a similar position, but not as bad, it's my hospital that won't allow me to have VBA2C, I feel for you:hugs:
ohhh noo stay Sal I have missed you :D
And thank you for the compliments :o
What are you going to do borntobe? Have another section? I just got so ******* PO'd at this "allow" word I mean hello I don't need permission to give birth lol
No advice (obviously! You know I'm a hospital girl!) But I'm sorry they are being such bum-wits.
Can you surround yourself with other women that have home/freebirthed? Ones that will know the difference between you needing reassurance and you needing external care? Men, lovely though they are, can become quite agitated and worried during the whole birthing process.
Are you still going to the antenatal appointments and then just refusing to turn up when labour starts?
Best of luck fighting this. And hopefully getting the press involved will get you offers of help from people that have been in your position.
Hey Pixie
I bet it all comes down to their Insurance right???
No advice here I am avoiding making any decisions for this time around (telling myself it will jinx my pregnancy if I do). The reality is its just to hard!
What is the go with independent midwifes there? Could you even find a retired middy who would help.
Are you going to have any scans. I think I would just want one done can you do that without being specifically under someones care. I guess if you want the antenatal care you could just lie and say you will goto hospy but then never show up:devil:
Sorry just more questions from me and no answers:D Good luck I am following this story with great interest.
p.s. (are you cold??? did you goto the next sale??!!!)

Hey Pixie, i'm sorry to hear that you are being treated like this! That's absolutely horrible
As for how i'm looking after myself...
I just get my BP checked at my local chemist every 1-2weeks to keep an eye on things as I had high BP with DD.
Other than that, I do nothing.
I can tell bub is growing well by the size of my belly, I know that he's alive as he moves so damn much and i'm generally feeling healthy. I have had no concerns at all about health issues or anything so i've not bothered with any other kind on 'care'. I did have my 36wk check at the hospital (with an Ob) lastweek (first ante-natal appointment in 4months), for peace of mind where the placenta was sitting so had a very quick (2min) scan and also heard bubs heart beat for the first time. Oh, and I got this massive lecture from the Ob about how I was potentially killing myself and my baby and blah blah blah...and he was under the impression that there was going to be a midwife present! Wasn't game enough to tell him that there wouldn't be! Damn stupid Obs and their stupid fears of uterine rupture
I didn't start the 'no care' until I was 20wks though, previous to that I had had the 12wk NT scan and all the bloods and the 20wk morphology scan. But if I was to do things over, i'd only bother having the 20wk scan done, just for piece of mind that bub was developing well.

My goodness & they wonder why many of us are starting to get angry at the medical field
I was just coming in to say what Sal & BTBM have said .... Come bacccccccckkkkkk !!!! :p
I would really start googling hun & having a look through some of the amazing websites that are around .... I did have some but of course lost them when our stupid computer died the other month *sigh* but i know Tami showed me a great site the other nite. Shows a womans wonderful homebirth & then the freebirth of her 3rd baby ... truly awesome !
You can do this, like Sal i think you are wonderful, intuitive & so much more :hugs:

No way will I get an elective c/s! I am thinking I will just turn up in labour or stay at home. It would be too expensive to have a midwife, so freebirth may be our only option, but DH is not convinced, at least we are walking distance to the hospy anyway. I'm not even pregnant yet though, so we'll see.

Can I ask which hospital you are dealing with??
I would 'shop' around because I am sure you will find a hospital/midwife willing to homebirth you. Its just a matter of finding it... In the UK you can birth in ANY hospital you like. Any part of the country.
Otherwise if you are happy freebirthing then I would just suggest finding others that have freebirthed (I'm sure there are heaps) and find out what they did. (I mean people in the UK not in Oz)
Its terrible that you have been treated that way...
I would like to free birth and have a free pregnancy next time.
I look forward to not dealing with hospitals and long waits and unnecessary procedures.
Beany I have surrounded myself which is why I know each stage I have to go through next once again in the letter writing stage.
Appt well I never went to any and never had another booked as they were going to let me HB.
Manx No idea about insurance it's more to do with their "policy" to which I said that's fine but I don't have to agree to your policy you do however have to give me the care I am entitled to.
Loads of IM's at around £4000 a pop no idea on old midwifes lol
Yes it's bloody freezing, and I haven't been to any sales yet!!!
DF OKey dokey then I shall keep and eye on my BP oh ya this baby doesn't stop moving it wakes me up at night something DD never did it's so, so active!
Ally I shall google :D
Borntobe, my DH wasn't to sure about FB either but he'd rather that then a hospital lol
FB a hospital in London not giving names out!, trust me I have shopped around it's blooming hard getting help for a HBAC
Kymmy my thoughts exactly!
