View Full Version : Move to bed??
Hi all just wondering about moving my son to a bed. He is 19 and a half months atm. We just have a normal cot and he still moves quite a bit. Anyway we were offered a toddler bed today at a great price and we are wondering if there is a need to go from cot to toddler bed then in a few years to a 'Big' bed.
I dont really mind if he is in the cot a while longer, we are TTC atm to no success just yet. So i would definately want him in a bed of some description by the time the bub needs the cot, however it would be in a bassinette for a while, so realistically that is about a year away.
Just after some advice, what you did and whether you would recommend it.
TIA
I don't think there's any need to use a toddler bed, I mean... what's the difference between a toddler bed and a single bed? (apart from the fact it's not as long?)
I got my 'big boy bed' from ebay for $18! :D so.. yeah.
Good luck with the TTC :)
thats nikki, thats kinda the stage i am at, do we spend $150 on a toddler bed, that he will grow out of in a few years(granted any other kids we have will also get use out of it)or just put him in a single bed straight up.
Is Cobes already in his big bed??If so how did he go transitioning?
We got given a frame for a car bed, just needs a few things fixed, but i was thinking if i do that then when he is about 5 I can get him a nice timber one. The bonus with the car one is the high sides and it is reasonably low to the ground.(and it was free:D)
Hmmm no real idea.
Thanks
He did well, we were co-sleeping before that, then he started not wanting to go to sleep in our bed (rejected :crying:) so I put him in his cot and he went to sleep without a hassle, so then I set up his bed and would give him the choice, bed or cot... after about a week of alternating he stopped choosing cot, now (2 months later) he climbs in himself :D
wow, sounds like the way to go. I was gunna do a new room for him, so maybe that would be good, baby room or big boy room.
Doesnt it suck when they reject you:DBlake would not sleep in our bed at all from 4 months onwards and still wont, unless he is sick and is that tired he just wants mummy and doesnt care where!
I might just start the decorating and let him chose.
have just had a chat to hubby and he reckons fix up the car bed for now and then in a few years get him a nice package.
So we will probably just do that.

My DS was in a cot til about 2 and a half. We never had any room for a bed and it wasn't until we moved that i bought him one. I just got a normal single bed.. he went in with no problems.
I personally wouldn't bother with a toddler bed.. it's just more money going to waste.
yeh thats what i am thinking, it would be an extra couple of hundred dollars that i wouldn t need to spend.
I also have a friend that has a fantastic nearly new timber bedroom package that if she gets pregnant again, which she is trying to she will have to get rid of. So i will just see if that happens and if so i will buy that off her.

Hi, I only use toddler beds because all my girls were real monkeys!
DD1 almost fell out of her cot at 12 months and then DD2 was only 11 months. Then because DD2 and DD3 are twins we put them both in toddler beds. They are nice wooden slatted ones. They still have heaps of room and were 4 in November so it has been worth it for us.
I will be getting them new beds for their 5th birthday's.
I really don't think I would have used toddler beds if I didn't have too. However they don't take up much room, so that has been handy.
