Hello...I just joined today but baby isn't due til September 08! Long wait. I live in London but moving back to Oz in March so I thought I'd get a head start...Expecting 2nd baby after having a boy in Jan 06. I have a particular question for anyone who will be kind enough to answer....are CS births available on request in Oz? (they're not here in the UK). I had a bad 3 day labour first time round ending in horribly dramatic emergency CS so I am too scared to go through it all again!
Thanks

Hello Jo,

Welcome to bubhub, I moved over from London last year so I can imagine you are busy getting everything organised. I am afraid I don't know about elective cs's here as I am just pregnant with my first and have not enquired about it.

Just wanted to say welcome and hopefully someone can answer your question for you.

Hello and welcome to BH.......I have not had to have a CS with any of my births but I am pretty sure that you are able to elect if you want to have a CS or not.....But I guess it would depend on where you are at......

Here is a link to elective c-section and positive c-section experiences section.

Hello Jo ,

My name is Michelle and I live in Brisbane and yes you can elect to have a CS in Australia if you want to. I told my Obstertrician at our first appointment that I wanted a CS and he said it was completely up to me. As it turned out, I had Placenta Previa so I couldn't give birth naturally anyway. My CS was quick and stress free and I would do it again in a heartbeat!!

Bye for now :flowerz:

Hi Jo, welcome! Hope your move is realatively stress free. Which state are you coming to? :)

I don't blame you for not wanting to go through a labour like that again! I had an emergency c-section after more than 24 hours labour for the birth of my first child 6 months ago. I apparently have a small pelvis and my bub also had a very large head (may have been handy knowing that beforehand hey?) When faced with the fact that I had to have a c-section I was initially horrified but I can honestly tell you it all went brilliantly and I wouldn't hesitate to do it a second time. My obstetrician told me at my six week check up that for future pregnancies I can elect to have a c-section or if I want to try for a natural birth I would be able to opt out at any time as they wouldn't push me as hard the second time around. Good luck with it all. I hope it goes well for you.

Hi  Most Obstetrician will do an elective c/section. If you find one who doesn't then find another one! I had an elective c/sec but he did go through a period of time asking all the right questions here and there to make sure he thought I was making the right decision for me. But at the end of the day it was exactly that - My decision. As long as you don't have an 'old school' OB you shouldn't have any trouble. Good Luck
