Hi all

I hope you can help me.....I have my son's 1st Birthday coming up in 3 weeks and need ideas as what presents to give (and tell others to buy). He has loads of toys already, so I don't really want to overload him with even more.....

Any Ideas?:detective:

I found those ride on cars, bikes really good although it takes awhile before they can actually ride them. Lego, wheelbarrow, sand toys, and that is about all I can t hink of at the moment.

Maybe a little table and chairs - he'll be using that a lot in his next year !:D

The other thing I just thought of that is good is a flip out sofa. They are great and will last a long time.

You can never have too many books! My boys loved being read to when they were younger. But it got boring from me with only one or two books to read.

Books, books, books. For good ideas look at www.myfirstbookshelf.com.au - great range, good advice on age appropriateness and free postage! (another bubhubber put me onto them and I have used them a lot - they have good communication too if things are out of stock.)

I agree with the flip out sofa, the chair and tables, and the clam shell too. The other success in our house has been musical instruments - drums (rubber and wooden), shakers, maracas, castanets, bells, clapping sticks etc - great to use and dance around to music with!

We had the same thoughts as ds got heaps for christmas, so didn't really need any more toys. The ones he did get have barely been looked at!! Some things we got that have been great and some things we have since thought of........

We got him a clam shell sandpit and filled it - he uses it every single day!
My mum got him a big parcel of books - he loves, loves, loves reading!! Even a keepsake-ish book for when he is a bit older would be good. My mum got ds the harry potter series as a birth present.
Something for his room - a print, clock, ornament, rug
Clothes
First shoes
Open a bank account for him
That's all I can think of at the moment - have fiun celebrating bub's special day!!!

For Lucas' 1st birthday, as well as the toys, I bought a huge photo frame and chose a white mat for it. I had a photo size cut out in the middle of the mat and then at the party all of the children put a handprint onto the mat and all of the adults signed it. I then put a photo of Lucas in the middle and it hangs in his bedroom. The handprint colours were blue and red and it looks fantastic!
An inexpensive yet everlasting gift.

MAMDUKE!!!!!!What a GREAT Idea!!!!!!!!!:yelclap:
I will do that, too..what a longlasting nice memory of his Birthday!!!!
Did you choose a specific mat for the Frame????

I also oped for the Books and will let people know if they ask, as well as cot sheet sets and stuff like that....

Jembelina, I was thinking about the clam shell sandpit, too, but am a bot worried though that he would eat the sand and we had a real bad experience in our family (my brother ate sand when he was little and nearly died on a inner infection cause he had sand in his appendix) :( So not sure about that one....

I'm thinking about the kids table and chairs, but wouldn't he be still a tiny bit too small for that?????

ANYWAY, thank you all so much for all the great ideas, even more reasons to go shopping now !!!!

I went to a framing shop and bought the frame and then chose a plain white mat that they cut and fitted in the store.
Make sure you buy a good thick black texta with a point nib so when everyone signs it it'll all look the same IYKWIM?
