Hey everyone

I just wanted to share my success of self soothing.

I recently had a friend come and stay for a week. Whist she was a great help, she used to rock my son (8 weeks at the time) to sleep so much he became relient upon it. I then spent the next 3 weeks in SA with my parents & they too wanted to cuddle him all the time.

I've come back to brissy this week & decided it's time for things to change. I now work on the 2 hour rule (bubs is only up for 2 hours before having another nap). I give him a quick cuddle & put him to sleep in his cot whilst he is still awake. For all you skeptics out there - IT REALLY WORKS! My son just started grizzling after being up for 1 hour 45 minutes, I picked him up, cuddled him for litterally a minute & put him down - he is now sleeping like a baby (ha ha)! He also sleeps from 9pm till 5.30am without me even hearing him once.

It is such a good feeling when you succeed - bubs is happy & i am happy.:smiliedance:

If anyone reading this wants to try it or is currently trying it, keep at it - it's well worth it.

I do the same with my bub but he's up for about 1.5 hours before i put him to bed and then he usually plays for about 30 minutes before going to sleep

I wish i had heard of this earlier - he has always been all over the place until now, but so I have i so it was a little easier said than done.

Thats great Sharvs. I agree! It is so lovely to have a baby that self settles, it will also pay off in the long run as he gets older.

I too encouraged self settling since he was born. My DS is now 6 months and is up 2 hrs and sleeps 2 hours. This is our routine from 6am till 6pm. It's fantastic....it usually takes him no more than 5 minutes to sleep...no crying...just some talking and succking on the dummy.

I'm glad it's worked for you....i too hope that this thread encourages others to give it a go.
