Hi,
Just wanting to know if anyone out there whose baby has club talipes or put it simpler a turned foot.
Ashleigh my daughter has been having plaster put on her leg on and off for months now but now she is getting the plaster off, we are trying the splint. We also have a appointment to have a ultrasound on her hips because they now think she has problems with her hip as well.
Ashleigh also has an appointment with the paedaetric orthopaedic specialist down at Westmead children's hospital to see if she will need surgery to her foot as it is still tight and her heel is to high.
I was just wondering what your experiences have been.

Hi! My baby has talipes in both feet. He is four weeks old. We found out at the 20 week ultrasound which was good because we researched a bit before he was born.
He has had splints since birth and gets weekly physio for four months. Some places use splints instead of plaster. We just happened to get a physio that uses this method. The baby's left foot is more severe so may need surgery. We find out in a few weeks I think.
My husband does physio on him every night and I do one little stretch in the day (I can't handle doing the big one as he screams!!!) He is progressing though which is encouraging.
I hope your little one is going well with treatment. It's a challenge but as my mum always says,"it will all be worth it when he walks off to school without any problems!" I think I agree.
All the best,
Poly:thumbsup:

My friends son, who is just 5, has recently had surgery for this problem. He had only one affected foot and the surgery they used was really radical. I think it is a fairly new procedure and it was done at Monash hospital in Clayton, VIC. The first surgery entailed putting his foot/lower leg in a steel brace that had about a dozen pins protruding through his leg-kind of criss-crossed steel pins in and out. It was fairly gruesome to look at and he has gone through some awful pain dealing with it but the best news is he had it removed last week (3 months since the 1st op) and now has a cast from his toes to his thigh. His foot looks amazing. All the pain and trauma, and there was a lot, has been worth it knowing how straight his foot will now be. He will be able to run, jump, skip and do all those things that he couldn't 4 months ago.
He is such a trooper, he came into kinder today in his wheelchair all singing and being loud. He is going to be extremely hard to keep up with shortly.
Also thought I would mention, my friend perservered with physio and bowen therapy for years and although her son eventually had to have surgery, the outcome was so much better for her having spent all those years doing all these things. Good luck.:fingerscrossed:

K had talipes on both feet due to him being long and was a bit squashed in my tummy..I was just shown how to massage his muscles and eventually it came right. He is now ten months, walking properly and showing no signs of the talipes now :smiliedance:
