Looking for ppls ideas on walkers. Have you used one? Are they safe? What type if any is better?
Just wondering if its worth the money to buy one as I think it would be good for my DD to be able to sit up and stuff. She is almost 5 months old. Already on the move with the commando crawl and rolling non stop. Its not taht Iwant her to be able to walk with one. But i need to know other ideas. So any tips advie would be great. thanks :)
There are a lot of reports that walkers are not safe for children and that they should be banned etc because they can move around. If you are looking for ways to have her upright and able to play etc there are a couple of safer options - one is a product by Safety First (I think) that is like a walker but without the wheels - an activity table that has a seat in the middle so they can reach things etc and turn around, but not "walk" - Target had them on sale in the last week or so.
The other option is the good old jolly jumper - hang it from a door frame and let the fun begin. I found mine very useful for doing the vacuuming:o - they are up and watching but not on the floor in the way!

Everything that Draught said  Also, why don't you post in the activities with kids section and see if other people have any other good ideas? At that age I used to sit DD up with a cushion behind her and I cut the front off a box for her to use as a table, and she loved it! (Couldn't crawl though)
We were given one, and it is very sturdy and has been safe to use on carpeted areas. To be honest, DS was never all that fussed on it and we only used it maybe 10 times (mostly when the people who bought it were there!). IMO they would not be worth buying.
I agree with Draught, a Jolly Jumper was a fantastic investment for us. DS always had lots of fun it it, and I found it great to hang in the bathroom door so I could have a shower, laundry door to do ironing etc. It keeps bubs in one spot but provides good stimulation. I probably used the jumper on average 3-4 times per week for around 15-20 mins each time.

If you do a search there is another thread about these. There are lots of differing opinions on the things, but personally I think they are dangerous, bad for development and a waste of $$.

I've a walker/rocker that i got on ebay new. DS loves it  we dont use it as a walker but as a rocker, it has some toys on it and he loves sitting in it and playing talking to me ect.
He is the same as ur bub 5mths doing the camando crawl, but backwards and for ever rolling
good luck with what you decide
