Hello All,
At the moment i have complete baby brain and so i cannot remember at all when my son started using the jolly jumper. My daughter is 2 months old and is holding her hear up beautifully and just wants to stand up all the time on my lap. So it seems like she is ready for the jolly jumper. But I want to make sure there is nothing i have missed, and wondering at what age do they reccomend starting bubs in the jolly jumper? and are there any particular requirements?
Thanx in advance :D
Personally I wouldn't put my DS is a jolly jumper (or a walker) on the advice of his physio. Apparently they hold a baby in an unnatural position which can cause lower back problems later in life, make them point their toes when trying to walk and affect (shorten I think) the achillies tendon.
JMHO :)

But thats only if you leave the bub in the walker for extended periods, surely?
The physio said if you have one they it should be ok for a few mins at a time but recommended that if you have the money for a JJ or crawler spend it on swimming lessons or books. :)
I think you can use them from around 3 months, but my DS didn't really start enjoying it until 4 months.
And yes, I think the issues raised above apply to those parents who leave their babies in the JJ for extended periods. I've heard of parents leaving their children in them for hours on end, thinking they've got a great baby-sitter. But I can't see anything wrong with them being in it for a few minutes here and there.

You can use them when your bubs can hold their head up well by themselves.
My DD used one and she liked it but only lasted about 10-15 minutes in it each time.

My dd was in her jolly jumper by 3.5mths. She had very strong head control and could bare her own weight on her legs. She usually lasts 15-30mins before she's had enough. I personally dont see anything wrong with them - gives them something different to do than being carried around, stuck on a mat on the floor or sitting in a pram - JMO
I've seen very few 2 month old who have good enough head control to be in a JJ.
That said - I wouldn't use one for the reasons said above. The spine is bearing more weight than it should for the developmental stage, it encourages 'toe walking' and shortened achilles. Most kids will be fine esp for short periods - but if they are prone to toe walking etc it could exacerbate the problem. Basically it's not a natural progression of development.

Personally, I'm waiting until bubs can sit up on his own before I put him in JJ.
2 months seems to young. DS had really good head control since birth but I still would wait.

hi there- we had my ds in one when he was about 3- 31/2 months I think (cant really remember) He just kinda sat there for the first bit
By the way- regarding the harmful effects of these things, it seriously depends on who you ask. My DH asked his chiropractor who said it is absolutely fine, there is no evidence to support the claims that it isnt. But I know others whos physios/chiros have said the opposite! Never mind- my mom put my sister and I in them when we were young and were fine and thats what Im going by:laughing:
hope she loves it!

Both my DS's were in a jolly jumper from the age of about 3 1/2 months. They had no trouble with head control by this age and absolutely loved it. I swear this made their legs so much stronger and the reason for them walking at 8 and 9 months.

My DD started at 6 months and loves it!
My little man is 7 months and we are going to get SIL jolly jumper to try this week... I cant wait to see him bounce around...
I have always thought that it is to do with common sence... Adjustment is very important... Making sure that when they are 'hooked up' that they're feet are flat thus not promoting the 'tippy toe'...
I remember with my older children were happy bouncing around for about a half hour... I tried to take them out and they'd go of their nut at me:laughing:
But a half hour was the limit...
Once i was on the phone and I had only put ds No.2 in the jumper and I went into the kitchen for a few mins and came back and he's fallen asleep in it... Oopps....
Don't shoot me... :(

I would wait until at least 4mths but try and hold off till 6mths. I don't have one but i have a fisher price jumperoo and he loved it! Still does at 10mths old!
would stand only supported under the arms and bounce a two month old around on your lap for 20min (or even 10 min) ?
no way in the world id put a baby that young in a JJ. I think 4 months is still too young.

Me too. I was given one from a friend but then after buying the Wellbeing Pregnancy book read not to use them and so gave it back - didn't won't to take the risk as it might not be until later in life that any prob's are recognised.
If I was intent on using one though, I would probably make sure bub was around 6 months of age and set a timer for around 15 - 20 mins (maybe the oven would be a good one or your mobile) as we all know how easy it is to lose track of time without even knowing where that time went.
started using mine at 4 months, DS absolutely loved it and it gave my very active boy with so much energy something to burn it off a bit. He walked early at 11 months, not on his toes and has had no side effects.
I will be trying my next one in it too at about 3 or 4 months and see if they love it too.
I think they say 3 months on the packet.

Our litlle one just reached 3mts and we have her in her jolly jumper, she also has great head control and we prop a towel around her for extra support. We just make sure it's low enough so that her feet can sit flat on the ground and she loves it.

I haven't got a JJ yet, but will be getting one just as soon as I can save for one lol. DD is 4.5 mths old. My mother is a physio, when I asked her opinion she agreed that walkers are no good, but didn't have a problem with the JJ.
