Has anybody have kiddies that suffer this condition? if so, how did you get it diagnosed? what were the symptoms? and how is it being treated?

On Sunday my dd complained that her right ankle hurt, was able to walk on it, then by Sun arvo she couldnt walk on it at all and it was quite swollen. She also developed a rash which the doc diagnosed as dermatitis from an allergic reaction to something and she was given Oral steroids, which cleared it up. As for her ankle, the doc said she had torn the fibres in her achillies tendon and strapped it up and told her to keep weight off of it for the week. (This was Mon morning)

Tuesday she woke up and it was fine - no swelling, no pain and was able to walk on it . Then in the arvo she complained her hand hurt, had a look and her wrist was red, hot and swollen and she had trouble moving it. We put some ice on it and she went to bed. Woke up yesterday morning and the wrist is fine - no redness, swelling, heat etc.

Now today, Thursday, this afternoon her right ankle has swollen up, it hurts and is quite hot.

I just find it all a bit odd that this happening. Today she was inside all day playing with ds and was not doing anything, that I would think, would cause her to hurt her ankle. I'm just a bit lost and I might be reading more into it than actual coincidence. But any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading throuh my :ecomcity:

Chicco, I would keep a close eye on it and would be a bit worried that it may be Cellulitis or Osteomylitis. These are both infections (of blood and bone respectively) and cause the area to become inflamed and red and hot (especially cellulitis). Both can be treated with antibiotics (usually via IV) but both can get quite serious if not treated.

I am not too sure abotu JRA, but my father has suffered with RA for the last 21 years and a is a very ill man. H is started in his feet and ankles, which would swell up like balloons (he was a butcher before he became ill). A blood test will diagnose initially (they look at the Rheumatoid factor) and then they will go from there.

Is she off colour at all?

I hope everything is ok:hugs:

ETA - Chicco - this http://content.revolutionhealth.com/contentimages/images-image_popup-r7_cellulitis.jpg is an image of what cellulitis can look like???

Thanks for replying frazzle.

She is a bit off colour, but she also has a cold at the moment. So thats probably why.

Her right ankle again is fine this morning other than being red and hot

I checked the link and it is nothing like that. Its more of a localised area. Feels like a golf ball sized area that is red, hot and swollen. So, I dont know
