Im a single mum i live on my own i dont have friends or family support. My daughter just turnt 3 and still is not talking, doctors have no idea why and dont have any advice on how i can fix it. She winges all day long and scream and throws tantrums.
i think she has a mild case of Autisum but the doctros wont say until she is 4.
I hate feeling like this but she is driving me insane and i dont know what to do anymore
kids are meant to make you happy but i find myself counting down the time until she goes to bed. :(
and i hate it
she was a perfect baby, slept at the right time for the right amount of time, smiled and crawled at the right time, but now i have no idea what went wrong...
its at the point where i cant take her anywhere because it is imbrassing and she just runs a muck,
and its not that she is a naughty kid she just doesnt understand what i say, and we are both so frushtrated.
i called those parent helplines and they suggest a parenting course but they dont suit us because keiara is so different to other kids.
I guess i really want to know if anyone has a kid like keiara and what you are doing for them, or how you handle it?
Keiara is 3 years old and its like she is 18 months
Hi Keiara's mum,
Hugs to you it can be hard being a mum sometimes can't it!
Have you tried to get a refferal for a speech therapist at you local childrens hospital?
They may be able to give you a lot of support and ideas.
Another idea is flash cards so that she can point to things she wants like a drink say or a teddy and then she might not get quite to frustrated?
We have a special needs section on here and there are a couple of mums with autism bubs there is you feel like chatting!
HTH (hope that helped)
Hello - Can I suggest putting a post in the special needs chat area? Link is here:

I didnt even see that part. thanks
Hi hun...:hugs: to you...
Autism can be diagnosed from 14 months in most cases... Aspergers also can be diagnosed at around this age....
At her age now i would be asking why your doctors are not testing until she is 4...
I understand that you are doing everything and please don't think i am second guessing anything but a clouple of close friends children displayed similair developmental delays at a much younger age and autism/aspergers was able to be investigated striaght away... In one case autism was confirmed and in the other case it was an actual condition relating to the vocal cords...
Hun she does need tests done... Have you sought a referal to a paediatrician... Seeking a second opinion be forcefull with your concerns and get fast tracked to the appropriate services to establish 'what is going on'.
Speak to the speech therapist... In their professional opinion what do they think?
Babbling on but also... Do you have a child health nurse (Maternal Child and Health)who you can see?.... they are an excellent point of call and have the power to refer you to government services that (believe it or not) are very quick to respond to these problems....
Also have you tried contacting the Autism/Aspergers associations... they have councillors that can talk with you and refer you to health care proffessionals specific to this area...
OK enough from me... I hope that this info helps in some way....
All the best... Please let us know how you go... x x

We do see a paediatrician but i will be asking to see someone else has he just says im not doing enough and this is what she should be doing.
He also wont diagnose her with Autism at this age as he thinks if she does have it, its only a mild mild case and he doesnt want to get it wrong.
i have spoke to the speech therapist and she has no idea said she hasnt had a kid like her and to just keep doing what im doing..
i dont have a child health nurse.
i am going to go see a gp and see if i can be refered to a paediatrician at Westmead childrens hospital as i think they will help.
thanks for all the responds i just wanted to know if there were other kids out there.
hugs sory that your DD is strugling and that you are stugling, with no diagnosis and no reason why i know how frustrating it can be to not know why your child is having issues
would it be posible to get a second opinion from a developement pead, i know of a few kids that have been diagnosed with autism a lot younger than four KWIM
the sooner she is diagnosed if thats what she has the easier it wil be to get treatment and therapy started before she goes into full on school kwim
My nephew is on the soectrum for autism and is starting ABA therapy in few weeks its very expensive but they aparently get great results
I hope she gets help soon
hugs your doing agreat job im sure, waiting for answers sucks

I would call the autism association in your state. They have some valuable resources and can point you in the right direction to having her assessed. They have early intervention programs too which can help.

Hi Keiara's mum, how's things going today? Hope its a better day for you two. Did you manage to get hold of a new pead?
:hugs:
hun from everything you have said i would be getting another paediatrician... Speaking with the autism assoc... you can find a child health nurse in your area that will provide masses of support...
Also contact Westmead Hospital and speak with them about taking the direct steps yourself to get your little girl assessed...
Here are some links...
1) Autism Spectrum Au (ASPECT) (http://www.autismnsw.com.au/)
2) Maternal Child and Health NSW (http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/living/mch/)
3) Westmead Disability Specialists Unit (http://www.chw.edu.au/site/directory/entries/dsu.htm)
(contact info here)
All the best hun... Good Luck with everything x x

Hi Keiaras Mum, I know how you feel. My son turns 3 on Friday and is not yet talking. Although we don't have a formal diagnosis he does suffer global delays in all areas of development so slightly different to your case. He does however appear to be shouting all day long, he gets frustrated (so do I). And there are many days where I feel like I am going insane from the noise. It felt like no doctors were listening to me, and they couldn't see how much it was affecting our quality of life.
1. Try calling DADHC or PECAT to get a formal assessment done. I find having this makes it easier to get access to services.
2. Have your daughters hearing checked, if you haven't already. Not saying this is the cause for being non-verbal, but it may play a small part in contributing to it. My son appears to hear perfectly well - as soon as a car arrives or a door opens he stops to listen, but after the test they weren't convinced about the really high pitched sounds, we are going back in March for another test.
3. Call Carer's NSW and get your 4 free counselling sessions. I was referred to a positive psychologist. She is not there to solve my problems, but instead helps me to remain positive and make the best of the situation.
4. I took video footage of the behaviour to our specialist at the childrens hospital. They haven't solved the problem, but this combined with all the of above is starting to get results.
5. Play nice, calming music in the background when she is playing or you are going about your day - it will help the both of you.
Is your daughter at pre-school or day care? We start this year (at an ordinary pre-school with a special carer), everyone keeps telling us that will make a huge difference, watching and learning from the other children, as well as giving you a break to recharge your batteries.
Hope this helps a little. Keep up the good work. Remember your daughter feeds off you so if you are stressed depressed etc, she will behave accordingly. Since practicing my positive tips from the counselling, I am much calmer and happier and my son seems to be too

MummaRabbit,
Your son sounds just like Keiara i have been PECAT and she is has global delays. i am going to take all of my information to a childrens hospital and see what we do now.
I might try recoding her so that way they can see what i am thanking about.
I just made an appiotment get her hearing done on Thursday so i will be able to update after that.
Keiara is going to Daycare she was going 3 days a week last year, and i have put her in for 4 days this year.
She has come along so much since being at Daycare.
The daycare is great they have someone come and see how she is going every week and have great tips and they have a carer in the morning so they can spend 1 on 1 time with Keiara.
You son does sound like keiara so if you get a answer before i do let me know :)
Thank you again to everyone for all your help and advice..
