View Full Version : Shorting light
Do you consider a shorting light a safety risk especially when it comes to children being able to reach the power point to turn the switch on and off?
We are renting and called the real estate yesterday so that it can be fixed and I have heard nothing back from them yet and I am thinking I should call back and see what he has done about it.
When the light switch is flicked on you can here this thump in the ceiling right above the light. Real estate guy told me to do this and that when I know what it is and said well just don't use it till I get an electrician in to fix it.

i do for sure! When did you talk to your agent? put it in writing you want it fixed they have 14 days then. Ring up the tenancies thingy and see what they say so you have the facts too
Called yesterday and he basically said don't use it till I get someone to fix it.....Called again this morning and the office lady was the only one there. She does nothing but pass on messages.....This real estate is in the past he has just him and the office lady and does all his bookwork and everything by hand....Has this old ancient computer that just sits on a desk collecting dust lol.
How would you even start off a letter to them? lol. I have never done one before.

you can download forms like a request to repair, i will see if i can find one for you :)
I cant find one :( thats worded nicely sorry but it would
What i would do is something like this (keep copy for yourself)
Addressed to the agent/landlord.
Re: Property address/ Problem
As per our phone conversation on (date you rang state all of them) I am writing to request repairs due to the light shorting in the (whatever room) (Describe in more detail what needs to be repaired and you feel its a safety issue).
I would be grateful if you would arrange to have these repairs completed as soon as possible.
I trust you will advise me of a suitable time for these repairs to be done. (you can also note that your happy for the electrician to contact you directly to arrange a time)
Send it certified mail so you know it gets there too :)
Ok thank you.........this is what I have so far.
To whom it may concern,
As per the phone call yesterday. The light in the lounge room has a short in it and makes a thud noise in the ceiling above the light when it is turned on. I have taken the bulb out and it does the same thing even when it is taken out. Would be appreciated if this can be fixed ASAP as I find that it is a real safety risk to all of us especially the kids.
Also the Air conditioner in the back room still needs to be fixed as it is still making heaps of noise. The same noise probably even worse then when you came in and looked at it.
