Why does DD1 who is 8 months old vary so much with her sleeping habits during the night?

She can go to sleep at a quarter to 9 and wake once at 3am...and then the next night shed wake every 2 hours for a feed?

I just dont get it. Im betting shes gonna sleep well tonight...she always does it to me when I complain! Shes breast fed...has 4 teeth, dont think shes teething at the moment. Doesnt self settle, gets sleepy on boob and wakes when I put her in cot and then turns over and goes to sleep.

Her day pattern has changed....she used to sleep 2 hours 9am-11am then another hour about 2ish. Now its like 2 1/2 hours from 9.30am then another half hour at 4pm. The other day she did 3 45 min cat naps during the day.

Strange.
Im wondering if its the weather. She slept better at 27 degrees with the fan on and just a nappy and then with the fan on at 17 degrees. I kind of feel bad and should have put a thicker blanket on. Maybe she was cold!

What do u mums think?

my dd2 changed her routine at that stage, she slept 1-2 hrs at 930am then 1/2-1hr at 430pm then went to bed at 8ish and woke god knows how many times. I think it is they fel they dont need to sleep as much as when they were younger as they are doing more.
temp varies through the night it always gets cooler around 2ish so it could have been that, hey mine still have funny night (well not dd1 she is 8) but ds1 nearly 3 and dd2 is 16mths and some nights they sleep through ( 730-430) yep early rises and others they wake but i find they are after comfort and they are not dummy kids (ds1 was until he turned 8mths) so they reach for a drink water in bottle for dd2 and water in sippercup for ds1. but i swear by my noise machine ( ihave said this in other posts i know) but sometimes its the little noises that wake them where with the machine it hides all the background noise (we have a lot of rev heads around us and they sleep through that most of the time). or it could just be a stage......goodluck

DS has always been the same - his sleeping has been soooo erratic since about 4 months old. He has periods where he'll sleep through for a week solid, then he'll be up and down all night for the week after that.

I went through every trick I know to get him to sleep - too cold, too hot, teething, comfort feeding, co sleeping, seperation anxiety, habit waking, too much day sleep, not enough day sleep, not enough solids, too much solids, too many breastfeeds....just about did my head in.

In the end I decided it was developmental, and just focussed my energies on coping with minimal sleep, rather than stressing myself to the point of insanity about why he wouldn't sleep (which I was doing).

Now at 15 months we still have our weeks with him but we're at the point now where more nights than not we all get a good nights sleep.

I dunno what the point of this post was lol...except to say there IS light at the end of the tunnel and sometimes there isn't a reason really why they do this which sucks I know because you just want to fix it :hugs:

I agree with the white noise...my girl seemed to sleep better hearing the fan running during new years celebrations and only woke once that night. Why does she sleep when I dont expect her to?. At least I can laugh about it!

you are not alone lipsmacker! I just visited the forum to ask the same question. Like emmylou has done I'm putting it down to just Neve being a baby or I'll make myself loopy :)

nice to hear someone else's baby is the same though and its normal.
