DD is eight months and has been at childcare 7 weeks. I enjoy my job which i do two days a week. So DD is in cc from 10.30 until 4, thurs & Fri. Every Thurs or fri she has a cold or some infection. I am not exaggerating. Should i reseign from job? WE can afford it but am not sure if in the long run it is good for her.
The first year of childcare is the worst for sickness and then it does get better once the immune system improves. My son went to childcare 3 days a week when he was 13 months and was sick the first year constantly, he is 7 now and has the constitution of a horse, rarely gets sick. Can you possibly work from home on any days your daughter is sick or take leave without pay. Alternatively can your partner or family member look after your daughter occasionally when she is sick?
Good luck with whatever you decide, but the sickness thing does improve with time.

I agree, when my girls first started daycare they were always sick too. But as Easterlily said, once there immune system builds up they will rarley get sick.:)

i would also agree i have only been working 2 months but my son has been in day care longer than that.
he had a really good day care before and he hardly ever seemed to get sick, unless just a slight cold
his new one he has had gastro, "possible" chicken pox (it wasn't in the end) and coughs.
i am just seeing how it goes its a pretty good day care centre best in the area (apart from a riduculous priced one, there are 4 others which are crap) so im just waiting it out
is the centre clean? do they have good hygiene?
u need to be comfortable with the cnetre, i know for me it takes me about 4 months to really start trusting the girls a lot more, and even then....
i miss my sons old day care the girls loved him so much and were upset we were leaving. i still wonder if i did the right thing moving house and child cares (to be closer to work and so he would spend less time in day care cos we wouldn't have to travel as much)
but anyway here i am going on about my day care thoughts now, haha!

Is it possible to work time in lieu or swap a day if your little one is sick to make up the hours at work. How lenient is your workplace about you having time off, if it is going to affect any future references or positions within the same company then I would say you are better off not working until bub is a bit older and his immune system a bit tougher!!
It is murphys law that he will be sick the days you need to take him to daycare!! But trust me it will settle down. Or could it be that he is not really that sick and you just secretly want to stay at home with him ;) If that is the case then yes resign, spend time with bub and enjoy every minute.

Sorry to hear that FF. I went back to work 2 days/week (Thu/Fri) since Thomas was only 5 months old, but we've been so lucky not to go through the "child gets sick from childcare" scenario. Mind you tho, Thomas's CC has a very strict policy not to send any sick/runny nose kids to the centre! He had runny nose once or twice but thats because DH and I were really sick we presume from work as we both have a very highly stress corporate type of work, so we didn't have the chance to blame the childcare ha ha
It's entirely up to you whether you should resign the job or not. Perhaps reduce the work? Just one day/week? I know I would resign too under your bub conditions, but bear in mind apparently it is rather normal for bubs to have runny noses.
Wish you and bub all the best! :hugs:

Our DS seemed to pick up everything in his first 12 months of childcare - colds, flu, bronchitis, school sores, ear infections etc etc.
It made going back to work so difficult as I needed to take so much leave.
**touching wood** he is really good now ! It's so hard but it will settle - just bear with it a little longer. If you can't though, that's okay too.
Best of luck.:D

It might help to know, I can't remember where I read it but recently I read that infants that go to formal cc have a much reduced chance of having leukaemia - which I think is an immune system disorder. I hate watching my DD when she's sick, it so upsetting that they feel bad and you can't do anything for them, but maybe you can console yourself that you could be doing your DD big favours in the long run!!
Good luck with your decision!
My DS was 1 when he started creche and also got repeated ear infections and colds (only went one day per week). Since been moved about 8 months ago to the toddler room and now also been attending 18 months no longer gets sick. Luckily I was employed casual for the same company I worked full time with before having DS so they were pretty good about me ringing in sick on the day (again only one day per week so not a huge problem). Hope you work something out - I don't know that if a child starts creche at a later age that they seem to avoid this problem?
