View Full Version : to wean or not to wean
my little one is 8 months now. she has been bf except for two formulas when i have to work each week. i dont produce enough milk to make a whole bottle. i want to have another child next year as i want three by age 35 and i am 32 now. i have started the weaning process with breakfast and dinner bf and bottle at lunch. i am really upset aboutdoing this as i want the best for baby. i have a history of some difficulty conceiving with medical conditions that led to 12 months it taking. that was with medication! is there any solution to tihs. i wish i was a person who could conceive whilst bf my baby. i cannot see it happening.

Hi,
Did you know that it is still possible to get pregnant whilst breastfeeding? Also, you can breastfeed whilst you are pregnant?
I'm in a similar situation in the sense that I'm weaning my bubs. He's nearly six months old and it's more because I don't have the energy to feed as often as I would need to in order to produce the amount that he wants... he's a guts!
I've had many different opinions thrown my way, but in the end, it is my decision, just as it is yours. Just remember, there are plenty of healthy formula fed bubs out there. There wouldn't be such a prevalance of formula fed babies, and options of different formulas if they weren't good for your baby.
Formulas these days are designed to ensure they produce the right amount of vitamins, minerals, etc that a growing baby needs!
In the end, don't worry about it not being a good thing for your baby... As long as s/he is getting ample amounts of milk (no matter which kind) and solids (if eating), and is growing healthily and as to be expected, there's nothing to worry about.
Hope I have been of some help to you!

It is possible to concieve while breastfeeding. Take me for example, I breastfed all through my pregnancy. The choice is yours though, just be happy and proud for doing an excellent job so far :yelclap:
Thanks for the replies. I have a condition where my prolactin levels are high even without breastfeeding and had to be on medication to get them down in order to conceive this first time. I also have PCOS hence it is not surprising that despite my little lady sleeping through the night very early, no period. Actually i am seeing my specialist that helped me get ready to conceive the last time on Tuesday. maybe i should have a chat to him.
Thanks for not being critical of me.
