A few weeks back we decided to start weaning Ryan off his dummy (which he was starting to do himself anyhow) and he really only had when going to bed.

Anyway the other day he was sitting on the floor watching tv (he had just woken up from a nap) and i heard a grasping noise so i turned around to look at him and he had bitten off the teat of the dummy and had sucked it back in his mouth!! Hence i jumped and quickly got it out and after i recovered from the shock I told him that we are going to have to do this cold turkey - no more dummies!!!

He has been going really well without it (only been 3 days) but I have noticed that he now sticks he fingers and his hands in his mouth and sucks them until they are red raw....

Now he is teething, currently cutting two bottom teeth so I have tried giving him teething rings etc but he will suck/chew it for a little bit but then discard it to put the fingers/hands back in the mouth....

Should I worry about this or just let it go??? The only thing that really concerns me is the red rawness on his hands from him sucking them....

Thanks for letting me ramble.....

i think that all babies chew on their fingers but if you are really worried maybe ask a dr or someone who would know for sure

yep most babies suck their fingers etc. I actually sucked my thumb until I was much older and I have perfectly straight teeth all fingers are on my hands so I wouldnt worry.

I know they will suck their fingers.... the only thing that concerned me was that he would suck them literally till they were red raw!

I would much rather he sucked his thumbs and fingers then choke on a dummy!
