I am only 7 weeks pregnant with my second, i have again pubic separation. I exp this during my ast preg but it started at 4 mths. I am so anxious of going through it again. Does anyone have any exp with coping with this, particularly with the pain at night!
I also had a very traumatic labour and delivery, i am going private this time but am not sure if I should go VD this time as Im sure the vacume extraction didnt help my pubic prob last time and am very paranoid about it happening again.
I would like to hear from anyone who has exp or knows anything about this, I had no assistance through the public syst last time round and was just forced to deal with it.

I think this may be the same thing as Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), in which case, there are some good resources around - including the Pelvic Instability Association - which has a lot of information ---> CLICK (http://www.pelvicinstability.org.au/) for link.
If you're going through the public system again, you can access public physios at the hospital, and a lot of women find physio/chiropractic really helpful through their pg to help manage the pain.
Good luck.

Yes thats what it is, its really frightening really, thankyou and Ill check it out, and Im definatley going private this time, just havent been able to get hold of any of my chosen OB over ther holidays!
Thanks for that info.
One of the girls I work with who is 3 weeks ahead of me has just been diagnosed with this and is really struggling at work, but inists on struggling through. It may just help her to know she's not alone and that it is OK to rest, and how import it is that she not push herself. It's so heartbreaking to see a usually fit healthy 24yr old, who one would expect to fly through pregnancy, limping around
:hugs: To you Tanya, I hope it is not too bad for you this time and that you find someone to help you manage it better.

I had SPD chronically in my first pregnancy and all I tried was a physio, which didn't help at all.
When I started getting the first twinges of this at about 12 or 13 weeks this time around, I went straight to see a Chiro and have been visiting him two times a week for the entire pregnancy (I am now 33 weeks) and the difference it has made has been tremendous. Instead of having chronic pain and being hardly able to walk, or lay or turnover in bed without being in agony, I have on a bad day got *some* pain. Most days I have nothing, or just twinges. If I miss more than one Chiro appointment, I REALLY notice the difference.
I highly recommend seeing a Chiro, one that is familiar with the Webster Technique if you can :)

*note to self....next time see a chiro*
i have had it with this bub since about 10 weeks, and only have just over 6 weeks to go.
it hurts like hell but i have somewhat gotten use to it.
i find the pain is bad if i really need to go to the loo (in the morning i can hardly walk but once i have gone to the loo the pain seems to ease off)
also a pillow between my legs is a must,
oh and no sudden rolling over in bed, it feels like im going to rip in 2 pieces, but if i turn over with my knees together i get vertually no pain what so ever.

I don't know if it was actually SPD, but I suffer from 'instability' of my pelvis which causes, among other things, chronic sciatica which worsens terribly during pregnancy. I saw a physio at the hospital - she was USELESS I must say....This time if it recurs, I'll be taking SC up on her advise and seeing a chiro.

SC How much does the chiro cost? I suffered with my last 2 but with dd2 I was on the couch for most of the last trimester. I couldn't walk and was doubled over. It got worse after the birth for a few months and I had problems but now it is ok. I had the belt which helped and did all the correct things to help but to no avail. If a chiro helps that much I would def go that way. Ideally I would love 6 children but I obviously don't have the body:no:

My chiro charges about $60 for the first visit and then $45 for every visit thereafter. If you have private health insurance it might be subsidised by them - otherwise, unfortunately, medicare doesn't cover any of it.

That link is fantastic. SPD really did make the last few months very stressful with my 2 eldest. I couldn't do everything I had done and I could tell they noticed. I didn't have family to lean on as I don't think they realised how bad the pain is. It's great to see a site that has a good amount of information!!

TIA Thats not bad a price when you think of the pain you go through. Even a little bit of relief is better than none!!

:yelclap: Thanks everyone, its so helpfull to know that one is not alone! I have been to my first chiro visit and it is a bit better. I have been wearing my belt but it seems to make it more painfull? Anyway, I have my first OB app this month and hopefully she may give me some more info about birthing options as most info i have read advises against epidural, forceps, stirups or vacume....I got the vacume last time and stirups :(.
