I'd forgotten about wonderful thrush  during pregnancy.
Just wanting to know if anything can be used to treat thrush during pregnancy, eg canesten cream? I know about using natural yoghurt for relief, but wondered if canesten was ok!
I have a drs appt on Thursday, but thought I'd ask all you wise women in the mean time!
Thanks in advance

my doctor told me to use the canesten cream, but please don't take my word for it, ask your doctor or chemist. I feel for you, I remember how horrible it was:hugs:

From what I know, it is fine to treat thrush with treatments such as Canesten but I believe they advise you do not use the applicators with the cream. To either use the cream by itself or the pessaries. Also I believe alot of the oral medications available to treat thrush are not recommended during pregnancy.

Yep use canesten or nilstat, just dont put it inside TMI or use the applicator, its fine to use if you use it this way :) your pharmacist will tell you, also a bath with a little vinegar can help too (plus wash your undies in it lol)

You can use any topical antifungal of your choice, but just don't use the applicators - use your fingers and gently insert a small amount of cream inside your vagina, be careful and don't go further than feels comfortable. Because you're doing it this way and not getting a 'full dose' of the cream, so to speak, its best to do it repeatedly through the day - say three times a day.
None of the oral medications are recommended, they can cause liver damage for you and bubs, so stay away from them.
Best thing to do is go chat to the pharmacist tomorrow - be sure to let them know you're pregnant, they'll give you a good indication of what to use and how :)
Hope you're feeling better soon!

I take 2000mg of Vit C every couple of hours - it raises the acidity of your vag and kills out the candida without the use of any toxins at all - and only takes a day to work. Combined with acidophillus capsules, this treatment is better than the anti fungal tabs.
Best of luck EmsMum xx

ive just come out of hospital and i was on antibiotics there for days and it caused me to have thrush...i actually didnt know wat it was at first i thought it was a heat rash  but they gave me canisten cream for it and said that i could use the applicator just dont push it up too far. they also told me that i could take a tablet and that would get rid of it, but they didnt stock it in the hospital pharmacy so they told me to get it from my local one but i didnt bother. hope it feels better soon xxxxx

The Ob at the hospital told me to get a Canasten Pessary, but I was 39 weeks pregnant then....
Definately ask your Dr or even the Chemist. It can be dangerous if you do the wrong thing when preggers. :hugs:
My ob told me the Canestan pessary is fine, but not to use the applicator. My thrush came back pretty quickly so she told me to use the 6-day pessaries and that seems to have done the trick.

I was going to ask this. I was given the 6 day pessaries. Ouch. They left me dry. :( I prefer the cream.
Question - why not use the applicator? Its not that long? Can't you just go half way.?

I knew I should have asked you! My MW told me you can use a clove of garlic as well, but I haven't been able to bring myself to try it yet :o - will try your remedy first!

It can damage your cervix, is my understanding :)
