I am looking for a baby carrier that will be comfy for both me and my son.
He is 17 months old, weighs 13 kg and is 83 cm high.
I am only 165 cm.

I just am getting sick of the pram when it's only a quick trip and I love my baby bjorn when he was younger but he's way too big now.
I tried a friend's sling but I kinda felt like he was going to fall out (maybe I was using it wrong).
Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Ergo Carrier would be your best friend. I carry my 21mth old in it all the time! It sooooooooo comfy!!

I would prefer a side carrier or front carrier, I don't like the ones that go on your back with the metal frame. I tried one out but it hurt my back!

You can carry on the side and in the front. It doesnt have a metal frame either...

I just checked out the ergo website, can anyone tell me where you might be able to get them a little cheaper? I will pay what I have to, but am broke atm.

Ergo! My 17 month old lvoes it.

Tegan - you have to look around.. that's pretty much the standard price although some store have specials etc.
YOu can layby them from most shops too :) Just send an email.

You may be able to find some on ebay or monkeysundies, but they have a great resale value so often it's better just to spend the extra $10 or $15 for new.

I love the Ergo and can't say enough good about it, but the one thing I will say is that it is not a very comfortable hip carrier - I would definitely recommend something else for a hip carrier.

If you are after something cheaper and still comfy, you could try a hotsling (avaliable at CarryingAway for about $50 - $70), they carry in a lot of positions and are very comfy, or the Ellaroo Mei Hip is very good too - can't remember what it cost though sorry.

I'd also look into ring slings, they are a cheaper option (you can even buy 'make your own' kits, if you can sew or know someone who will sew it for you) and they are quick and easy to use once you get the hang of it.

Check out www.wearyourbaby.com and go through all the different kinds of babywearers available. I love the Hug-A-Bub but can't use it with my almost-20 month old, BUT some people do use it at this age and beyond. I love my ring-sling now, but couldn't use it with him as a newborn, whereas some people swear by them for newbies.
Also an Australian website is www.carryingaway.com which has heaps of great info and options.

Good luck - I haven't got an ergo but I have never heard anyone speak badly of it.
