How many babies have been sillborn or had birth defects for them to come up with what we can and can't eat during our pregnancy?
How many people have miscarried in the first trimester due to what they are eatting?
Surely food in Australia is at a higher standard than most of the world ..
I know something like 1 in 4 babies in china are either stillborn or have bad birth defects because of food but god have you seen their living conditions ..
Also I've been majority of my friends not even bother to give up smoking during their pregnancys but won't eat DELI MEATS and SOFT SERVE ICE CREAMS etc ...
I'm sorry if this sounds nasty but surely a little bit of deli meat is no where near as harmful to your baby as 10 ciggys a day??
And all my friends that have smoked during their pregnancys have brought home babies in the high 8 pounds and with no problems .. they've had no effects at all after their birth either.
So who comes up with this stuff??
Have you read why you shouldnt eat this stuff? Its because these foods can contain high amounts of bacteria that CAN be very harmful to an unborn baby. A little bit of deli meat could be very harmful if it contains that bacteria.

Yes I know why we shouldn't be eatting this stuff but I've never actually seen any statistics that show how long they've known this for? When did they start preaching it? How many babys had what problems from eatting whatever? How many women have miscarried because of eatting whatever?
I'm hearing a lot from both sides of the argument from a lot of people but no one has anything to back anything up ..
Friends say "oh i ate whatever and my child is perfect" then other people say "I didn't eat that cause the doctor/midwife said and they must be right"

From memory, some babies had shocking reactions to that whole garabaldi thing years back.
You can't take a chance that something could be "off".
I think it's a case of better safe than sorry - but of course a lot of babies will be fine if their mother's have soft serve and cold meats. I would just hate to be that one in a million (?) who suffers.
Are you thinking its a scare tactic or something? I mean it has been proven that listeria bacteria is VERY harmful to unborn babies. Its not like it was made up out of nowhere. Im sure someone else could trawl through the internet to find you exactly what you want.

honestly I think a lot of the 'research' is based on laboratory animals who were fed a diet high in the different bacterias which occur naturally/ frequently contaminate certain foods.
But of course there is going to be a huge difference in feeding a mouse something absolutely laced with mercury, than just eating a piece of flake once in a while that contains trace elements of the stuff.
Everything changes... there are no absolutes. I bet you could live on bread and water and still be ingesting things which are not 'in the best interest of the baby'.
Try to eat fresh and unprocessed as often as possible... but don't kill yourself if you want to eat a pasta with white wine sauce and Morton bay bugs, followed by a coffee and a soft serve ice cream... just don't do it everyday.
And my midwife said there is nothing wrong with 3-4 cups of caffinated drink a day.
well I wont be taking that chance :)

well I wont be taking that chance :)
And I'm sure you'll have a wonderful pregnancy and incredible birthing experience
just make sure as well as not eating certain foods you keep up the excercise, watch your sugar intake, remember to relax and don't stay on your feet for extended periods of time. :D
