Hi,
just wanted your opinions on the following areas we are thinking of renting in.
Myself and my partner have two children (6 yr old and 1 year old) so schools are important, also a nice area for children to grow up in is hugely important to me.
thanks a million.
1. Glengowrie
2. O'Halloran Hill
3. Hove
Or any other recommendations or advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.:yelclap:

Hi Missrubyslippers  Nice to 'meet' you!

So when are you moving to Adelaide? You have picked some nice suburbs there! Just wondering how you came up with the short list? I'd be happy to make other recommendations but I need to know what you need to be near, eg. where is work, do you want to be near the beach, the city, the airport, the countryside etc... If you can mention some of these requirements I may be able to make some suggestions.

I don't have a lot of experience with these areas but I can tell you that Hove and Glengowrie are near the beach and as far as I know are good areas. I know there are a couple of good schools in or near Glengowrie but I have no idea about Hove schools.

O'halloran Hill is about 2 suburbs away from a friend of mine and is slightly further away from the beach but not by much. I drive through it to get to her house but sorry to say i don't know much more than that.

I might forward this link to her (Sharai) as she has spent her life living along that side of town and may have some more info than me for you.

Anyway, good luck with the big move :flowerz:

Hi I'm Lea
I live in the new sheidow park land development. Which is not far from O'Halloran Hill.
Sheidow park has an older area and a new development area and a lot of young families have moved there. There are 2 Schools in the Sheidow park area and my Son Hayden also 6yrs goes to Woodend which is really nice and I like the principal and teachers there.
There is also a near by school that has reception primary school to year 12 high school. And another high school not far too that has a school bus service going thru sheidow park.

We aren't far from the beach probably 5 - 10 min drive we are up on a hill as O'Halloran Hill is where Hove is down on the flats about the same distance from the beach. My father in law lives at Hove. Older houses mixed with new ones.
More Private schools in that area.
Let me know if you want any more information on any of the suburbs.

Glengowerie is lovely and is closer to the highly populated precint of Glenelg.

I guess it depends on what you want.

Glengowerie is a lovely place a bit pricey but that's the type of area it is.
Hove still on the flats not a pricey as glengowerie but still a nice place and close to large shopping complex at Marion Westfield.
O'Halloran Hill I'd say an older area not as pricey and a little further away to beach maybe an extra 5mins.

All areas are close to schools shopping complexes withing 5 - 10 mins drive. Public transport in all areas.

Hallett Cove is also a nice area on top of the hill mid range in prices lovely homes not far from beach, shopping area and has 3 primary schools in its suburb. My Parents live there and its just across the highway from me at sheidow park. Trott Park is ok too older area but in between sheidow park and O'Halloran Hill.
Happy Valley is nice too tucked in behind us we have friends there too.
nice place there too.

Cheers

Lea

Hi Mummynow and Lea,
You are sooooo good for writing with all the info.
We are just in the final process of getting our house here in Dublin, Ireland to rent out.
We have a permanent residency visa for Australia, and the only reason I asked about those particular areas is that we spent a month exactly this time last year in Adelaide, and stayed in Glenelg, I really really loved the place.
I do like being near the beach, or the city to be honest, am not really fussed. My priority is just getting my son in particular settled, at the moment he is in school here, and is in his second year here, which is called 'Senior Infants' class, so I don't really know how the school system works there, but am sure it won't take me long to work it out. Am just awaiting a loan to come through at the moment so then I can book my flights, but aiming for beginning of March. We have applied for this sponsored accommodation, which is called 'On arrival accommodation' which is a system for people emigrating to Oz (depending on what visa they have) and you can get accommodation for the first three months at a minimum cost, so don't really know what area we will get, but you can put in a request for a specific area on the form, so of course I put in Glenelg, but totally understand that I might not end up there.
I suppose we will take it from when we get there.
But thank you both of you, am very grateful for your advice.
:fingerscrossed:

Hi,

I live in Happy Valley which is next to O'Halloran Hill. There is a great primary school here with an innovative program directed at the different ways boys learn from girls. (PM me if you want the name). We used to live down near the beach in West Lakes Shore, and just moved here 6 months ago. I can highly recommend either suburb. Glenelg is lovely, but VERY busy and quite expensive.

Best of luck with your move.
